KaptainAfrika:My school only requires I pay my fees after my visa is approved, but before arriving at the school. I have only previously paid for the application. Don't know why you say it makes no sense. What makes no sense to me is waiting till last minute to rush everything without even having seen the person who has promised to sponsor me face to face. It's only respectful I humbly see her than just make demands from a distance. |
KaptainAfrika:Please, maybe I need to clarify. I am going to her place first because she will be paying my fees and purchasing medical insurance for me before I arrive at the school. The school requires I pay my fees before I arrive, but she wants to pay only after I'm in the US. |
Hi everyone. I am travelling next month on a student visa. Its within the earliest arrival date on my I-20 and just a day after my visa becomes valid but almost a month before my school orientation. The school is in California but I booked a ticket to Houston because my sponsor lives there and I will be at her place till its close to my orientation date. Is there a chance that I might have problems at POE since the address of residence I chose was the school but I will first be going to her place? Her name and address are listed on my DS-160 as my sponsor. |
Zeng:VO: (With a smile) Good morning Me: (Also replied with a smile) Good morning VO: Pass me your passport and I-20 please Me: (Passed it to him) VO: So tell me about the school you are going to Me: The school I'll be going to is National University. It is was established in 1971 and is accredited by the WASC. And the Computer science courses there have a good balance in theory and practice. VO: Okay. So how many schools did you apply to? Me: Just 2 VO: What's the name of the other school? Me: Michigan Technological University VO: And were you offered admission at MTU? Me: No VO: What standard tests did you take? Me: I took the TOEFL. VO: Did you take the (looking at my I -20) GRE? Me: No VO: Who will be sponsoring your studies? Me: My Aunt VO: What does she do? Me: (told him) VO: When did you graduate from your Bachelor's? Me: 2012 VO: And you did you NYSC? Me: Yes VO: What have you been doing since then? Me: Well I worked with .....(a Christian organization). It wasn't a real job, but I worked with them for about 2 years before I moved to Lagos and got a job at .....(my current workplace). VO: And what do you do there? Me: Well I'm a Data processor/customer relations officer. VO: Okay. (bringing out a white sheet of paper and passing it to me with my I-20) Here's your I-20, you will be needing it when you get on the plane...etc. I'm so grateful to everyone here for their advice. That's why I took the time to drop this as my own way of helping someone. My advice: ask for grace and favour of God as you go. I wasn't particularly well prepared but just found I just had the answer needed as questions were asked. And please, read as many transcripts as possible to prepare your mind for like questions, but don't cram any answers. It's best to sound natural. |
I just give thanks to God. My visa has been approved this morning at Lagos consulate, 7am batch. Will try to post a transcript soon. |
djPyper:Thanks for the info. |
Please for those that have gone to Lagos consulate: My visa interview is tomorrow. I know some items were listed on the confirmation page as items prohibited at the consulate. Do I have to come empty handed apart from my documents, or is there anybody that helps people keep their belongings? Make I know if I go just jeje leave my phone for house. |
Jesusbabygirl: successflow:Thanks guys ![]() |
Please how can I get to Walter Carrington from Council at Idimu? My visa interview is scheduled for this Thursday. |
OjaP:This school was actually suggested to me. I figured I would easily get admission here then get a transfer to a different school, when I won't be choked up with work and trying to keep my application under cover. It took me months to do this application, which was simple compared to others I saw, just because of lack of time. I work from 8am to 6pm on weekdays and still work weekends, so even finding time to even apply and write the TOEFL was a huge stretch. I think its too late to change schools now cos my interview is in less than 2 weeks. |
Hi everyone, I was admitted into National University, San Diego, for a Masters degree in Computer science. My first degree is from UNIBEN, Computer Engineering. Please what do you think about my info? GPA: 4.27/5.0 (Don't know the actual GPA cos I wasn't given by the school, but this is based on my own calculations) GRE: None (not required by the school) TOEFL: 107/120 Number of schools applied to: 1 (but I researched and made enquiries in other schools) Why NU? What attracted me most to this school is its unique one-course-per-month format used which will allow me to focus better on learning each course without distractions. Also the Computer science courses I will be taking will provide me with the knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in this field. The department also has professors who have been trained in some of the best universities in the country. (Don't have anything about research, not really provided on the website.) Sponsor: My Aunt (who lives in the US but a different state) Why I changed course: While studying in my undergrad, I realised that I enjoyed and did better in programming and software architecture courses. So I decided to focus on what I had better potential in. Plans for after study: I plan to return to my country and develop software for educational use, interactive software that will enhance students learning. Please rate. Is there anything I'm missing? |
Just got my SEVIS payment done. I guess I can really focus on preparing for the interview. Wanna ask, will I need to bring a passport photograph when appearing for the interview? |
electronic:Really? Which schools. |
princeGee23:Thanks. Will my applying to only one university also pose a challenge? |
princeGee23:I tried doing this. Didn't show me their research fields, just their qualifications. Will it be ok to just say I don't have a research topic yet? |
happyday:Thanks |
happyday:Really? Didn't know that. I applied to only one school and got the admission. I applied there when a relative suggested it and because the application process was not difficult, despite my tight schedule. |
happyday:Hmm ok. But I hope that my admission being in a private university does not put me at a disadvantage. |
happyday:How do I know what prof to work with? Do I just pick anyone? |
Been reading through this thread and I'm so happy for you guys who have gotten your visas approved. The school I applied for my masters did not give me any research topic. Should I be concerned about this? Cause I've noticed most interview transcripts mentioning research and I have no idea how to answer any such question. |
Zeng:Please need reply on this |
@Lagosismyhome, walspring I have gotten admission to study Masters in Computer science at National University, San Diego. I have filled my DS-160 and booked a date for my visa interview. But I haven't paid the SEVIS fee yet. 1. My sponsor is in the US and she will be helping me pay the SEVIS fee. Can she use a credit card for the payment? 2. Considering I applied to a private, non-profit university, what could by my weak areas during interview? Mock interview needed please. Thanks. |
More ideas please |
Please I'm still open to more ideas. They are very much appreciated. |
ajigiteri:I don't have much. But I can manage to spare maybe 2k or 3k per month. |
ajigiteri:Will I not need space and time to venture into this? I live with someone else in a rented apartment and I leave for work before daybreak and return after nightfall. So I don't know how this would work. |
I am currently working full time (10 hours a day) in a job which I find very unfulfilling. I really want to try my hands on something part time which can pay me enough to leave my current job. The problem is I have a lot of time constraints, am not very familiar with running any business, and my current job does not pay me enough to have a good enough startup capital. I need ideas of what I can do in 1-2 hours max per day and can pay me at least 30,000 per month. Thanks for help in advance. |
Invest in Real Estate today. Invest in your future! |
Most people know that the price of land always increases, so they decide to buy a land, perhaps to build on it, or to sell it out for profit. But do you know that it is possible to get greater profit (even 100% or greater) from real estate investment, and not have to wait many years to get it? It just has to do with targeting the right places to buy into! And you don't need to wait to have millions of naira to do so! I happen to work in a Real Estate company and have come across clients who bought land as low as 600,000 naira or even less in 2014. And now these same lands can cost 2.5 to 3 million naira! Some even bought these same lands at 300,000 naira! Now you do the math. 2.5 million - 600,000 = 1.9 million naira. And this is not necessarily the only way to make money from real estate. Land leasing and building sales and lease are some other viable options. If you are interested in real estate investment, I can help you get lands at promising areas, and at a negotiable price, with very flexible payment plans. My email address is zingyzeng@gmail.com, if you wish to contact me. Feel free to ask questions if you have doubts. |
