The presidency has asked the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana, to remain in office despite the expiration of his tenure, PRNigeria reports.
Recall that the federal government in 2019 through the Ministry of Interior elongated his tenure by six months, which expired on Monday, January 18, 2021.

NSCDC spokesman, Emmanuel Okeh, in a statement on July 19, announced that the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbeshola communicated the approval.
Now, the presidency has asked Gana to await an official memo on the next line of action.

Gana was said to have handed over on Monday to a Deputy Commandant General, Hilary Kelechi Madu.

But the presidency, it was gathered, insists it did not give a handover directive and as such, the status quo be maintained.
The claim is that Gana still has two years in service.

If so, stakeholders wonder why was he granted a six-month extension that elapsed on Monday.

They argue that the government could have in 2019 approved his incumbency until “actual” retirement date.
Madu now has to wait longer as efforts are being made to further extend his boss’s stay in office.

Powerful forces are reportedly lobbying the presidency and top officials for this to happen.

Recall that some retired serving officers and concerned citizens had warned Buhari against an extension of tenure for heads of Nigeria’s paramilitary agencies.

According to them, retaining the officials after their tenure expiration would psychologically affect personnel development and career progression.

The warning directed at President Buhari and Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, noted that the likes of Controller-General, Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Jaafaru Ahmed; Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede; Commandant-General, NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana should not be approved for another term in office.

This newspaper understands that the warning came after alleged moves by Aregbesola to get Buhari’s approval for the continued stay of the officials.
The stakeholders wondered if there are no capable hands to take over, continue with policies, as well as inject new ideas.

Thanks beloved. I have 2 kids there. A colleague had 4 at a time and 2 have graduated. Several parents have multiple kids there at same time. The school has 22 campuses (in 21 States plus Abuja) with students from all over. The applicants are too many, especially for Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos campuses.

Is there any sane person who wouldn't act or is saying anyone shouldn't seek remedy? There are multiple channels and for the records, I have never said anyone should be mute. What we should avoid is making sweeping generalisations. Both victims and those accused should be fully heard and very holistic and independent investigation swiftly conducted. I have said so on several platforms.

I can't remember discussing about this case. I only clarified the school fees cos lots of copy and paste information are being bandied about. As for the current case, it has nothing to do with religion! Allegations are what they are, allegations and should be swiftly and thoroughly investigated by the appropriate government institutions be they law enforcement agencies, supported if need be by local and international observers and fully prosecuted. I have no interest in cover ups (if any) and not in position to credit or discredit any claims or counter claims. That's my stand. God bless you.

I get you my brother. 'Small' is a relative term. I get value for money. Some schools who offer same value like where my own younger sister works talk in a million and above as in millions. Any result your child gets can be defended anywhere. Zero tolerance for exam malpractice. Just define what you want and go where you can afford but as they say, look before you leap. My colleague's 4 children are Deeper Life High School students or ex. 2 have graduated and 2 are there.

No. It is not! It is #445k for a start. I am a parent and paid last term. This one is not 'they said' or 'internet matter sir. I made the payment and have receipt. I repeat it's #445k and covers uniform, books, tuition, feeding and boarding etc for first term. It's same for all the campuses.

New comer isn't #1m. It was 415k for new comer but now #445k sir. Other terms are 230k as I said before. And please subject to investigation, high school in most of the campuses I am aware of, feeds children very well with snacks in between meals if I recall correctly. The school has 22 campuses with thousands of parents, some of these and their students are probably on Nairaland sir. Let's wait to hear all sides and have an independent investigation. My dear that case should be investigated very well. Something is amiss there I agree. Deeper Life High School fees is #230k for regular terms and truth be told, the feeding is okay for most campuses that I am aware of. There are 22 campuses and Uyo is one of them sir.

The students DO NOT pay "pay about 1.1 Million per session". School fees is 230k per term except first term when you pay for books etc. For a first time student, you buy a Laptop on your own. A first time student pays about 400+ in the first term. Adding all, the fees come to about 900k per session at most for first timers or those starting like SS1. Otherwise it's 230k for others and amounts to about 690k per session.
The Akwa Ibom case is isolated and not typical -it should be thoroughly and independently investigated, lessons learnt and anyone indicted by appropriate state authorities should be punished accordingly. For now, we have allegations, accusations, denials, sweeping generalisations, unconscious bias, emotional outbursts, insulting one another etc. We need to hear from ALL sides and await outcome of proper investigations and findings.
Deeper Life High School has 22 campuses (in 21 States and Abuja).
The school is open to the general public and students come from different denominations and even non-Christians. Each campus has a management team, a school management committee, PTA and hierarchy running through to the Education Secretary who reacted in the video from the Management. The Education Secretary, supervises and coordinates from the Headquarters in Lagos all the twenty-two (22) campuses spread across the nation. Cases can be reported, escalating from the school educators, house masters/mistress, principals, administrators, PTAs right through to the Executive Secretary etc. Some students have previously been suspended or expelled for various offences -exam malpractices, immorality etc are not tolerated.
I hope the current case in issue is given the seriousness it deserves by the school and State authorities. The investigation should be swift and holistic.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Odiko Macdon in a statement on Tuesday, said the command received a petition from the victim’s mother and commenced investigations immediately.

According to the statement, “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command is in receipt of a petition by one Mrs Deborah Archibong ( 41), mother of one Don-Davis Iniobong Archibong, aged 11yrs, a student of Deeper Life High School, Idoro Road, Uyo, wherein she alleged that her son, Master Don-Davis Iniobong was inhumanly treated, sexually molested and suffered starvation, against one Mrs Ndidi Solomon (45) and three others.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Amiengheme Andrew ordered a discreet investigation into the matter and the said investigation has commenced immediately.”

He added that the CP enjoined all parties involved to exercise restraint pending the outcome of the investigation, stressing that the outcome would be made public.

Well, I think it's elementary principle to give everyone a fair hearing. It's normal to have 'unconscious bias' but the only way out is a thorough and independent investigation because most of us are not eyewitnesses. Sweeping generalisations, presumption, judgment, assertions, insulting each other or finding people guilty based on what is available in the social media, may be unhelpful. One of the boys accused of molesting Don Davis has denied this and stated his own account. None of us was in the hostel and are only hearing "them say". Obviously an investigation and/or court case is the proper way out. Whether the case will go up to Supreme Court or wait until the final judgment day is yet to be seen. My only counsel is, please refrain from insulting anyone and restrain yourself however provoked you may be. For now, we have accusations and allegations that have to be investigated, evidences tendered and sustained or refuted by appropriate state or legal authorities before the full facts are known. I see a lot of sentiments, emotional outbursts, unhealthy exchanges, sweeping generalisations and even extrapolations. We need to hear all sides speedily and I expect the authorities to act fast. This thing has become something else completely! The school and church can't investigate since they are accused parties. The Doctor's report has been disputed even on Nairaland. Akwa Ibom State Government has washed their hands and said it's with the Police because even the Commissioner was accused of taking sides. At this rate, I already doubt if the Police report will be considered as credible whenever if ever it is ready. Perhaps Amnesty International, the United Nations or some other bodies outside Nigeria or outside the Earth will have to handle this case. Even the court rulings will be discredited at this rate. Everyone including you who will type a response to my post risks being accused of taking sides. As I see it, most people have drawn their own conclusions and passed their own judgement and anything contrary to their own position will be considered as injustice. It has become complicated.
