Go contest for election in Nigeria and see what Nigerian Politicians are passing through. Do you know the amount they spent individually or feet they kissed to get nominated, endorsed and screen by our Senate? Do you know the unrealistic and merchantile expectations of their villagers, friends, family, mistresses and boys etc? Guy it's never easy. We the masses expect alot of selfish gains from our Politicians and that's the bane of politics in Nigeria. For instance,if you're seeking for employment or Contract in Ministry of Works, and you're from Fashola's village, family,LGA etc, you'll selfishly want to be considered first before others using different tactics not restricted to speaking your local dialect to him, reminding him of how you grand father once paid his school fees or how had wanted to date your mother, getting the man whom he respects to call before your arrival ect. And if he's unmoved by this your nepotic and selfish interests, you'll take him to your village shrine or start telling people who cares to listen how he is the most wicked man on earth. It not easy to be Politician in Nigeria.
i get ur point, buh most of them don't run to serve the people, just for the gains because they get back 50x what dey spent to contest,, reduce it drastically and see how many people will agree to run, it is only thhose willing to serve that will contest, and its the people we need

PoliticsMusa Gowon: Son Of Yakubu Gowon To Return To Nigeria After 22 Years In US Prison by zinachidi(op): 4:41pm On Nov 27, 2015
Musa Gowon was sentenced to 40 years in
prison for drug-related offences while he was
part of a Colombian cartel.

The son of former Nigerian military head of state
Yakubu Gowon is due to return to Nigeria after
spending 22 years in a US prison after being
convicted on drug-related charges. It is believed
Musa Gowon was released from the Taft
Correctional Facility Bakersfield, California, after US President Barack Obama granted him pardon
earlier in November. The Igbo Mandate Congress (IMC)- which
advocates for the Igbo ethnic group in Nigeria -
has said it was arranging a welcome ceremony.
The date of Gowon's arrival has not yet been
disclosed. He is currently being held at a
deportation centre in the US.

Who is Musa Gowon?

According to the IMC, Gowon was born in 1969
after his father had started a relationship with an
Igbo woman, late Edith Ike-Okongwu. The relationship allegedly ended during the
Nigerian civil war (1967-1970) - also known as
the Biafran war - as Okongwu disagreed with
Yakubu Gowon - then head of state - over the
role of the Nigerian army in the war. The army
has been accused of deliberately bombing Biafran civilians and imposing a blockade that
resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands
of civilians due to lack of food and medicine.

After the war, Okongwu emigrated with her son
to the US. She later returned to Nigeria, while
Musa remained in the US where he joined a
Colombian drug cartel. He was arrested and
sentenced to 40 years in jail in 1992, at the age of
23. Musa was said to have lived a flamboyant lifestyle until he was arrested on November 18,
1992 aged 23, prosecuted and given 40-year jail
sentence the following year. U.S. President Obama last month granted him
state pardon after he had spent 22 years in
prison. He is now in the custody of U.S.
Immigration booked for deportation to Nigeria
anytime from now IMC thanked Obama for the pardon: "Igbo
Mandate Congress also expresses gratitude to
the United States President Barrack Obama for the
pardon granted Musa Ngonadi Gowon in the
spirit of reconciliation and demand good
treatment of this man born under the contradictions of love, hate and an unnecessary
civil war."

Gowon created a Facebook account in 2013
where he routinely wrote messages thanking
family and friends for his support. in March 2015,
he wrote: "To all my family and friends. I recently
read all your lovely birthday messages to me, and
I was overjoyed at the beautiful and kind words of encouragement sent to me. I hear you all and
unfortunately I can't respond directly to
everyone... But in due time we shall all see again,
by the grace of God. Thank you once more for
the love and support and I hold you all in a
special part of my heart. God bless." After being overthrown in 1975, Gowon's father
moved to the UK, where he obtained a PhD at
Warwick University in 1983. He returned to
Nigeria that same year after being pardoned by
the then president Shehu Shagari for his alleged
role in the 1976 coup d'etat in Nigeria. Gowon's father still lives in the UK.

PoliticsPDP To INEC: Declare Wada As Winner Of Kogi Election by zinachidi(op): 4:23pm On Nov 26, 2015
. . . Seeks APC’s exclusion from supplementary poll

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare its candidate, Governor Idris Wada, as the winner of the November 21 governorship election in Kogi State.

The party is also seeking the exclusion of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the supplementary election slated for December 5. The INEC had declared the election inconclusive following the cancellation of the poll in 91 units across 18 local government areas in the state.

The party’s position was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of its national caucus meeting held in Abuja Wednesday night.

The communiqué, signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, insisted that with the death of the APC’s candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu , during the election, the APC has legally “crashed out” of the race.

Audu had died on Sunday, while the results of the election were still being collated. He had won in 16 out of the 21 local government areas in the state and leading the PDP candidate with over 41,000 votes.

The INEC has declared the election inconclusive, citing irregularities and violence that led to the cancellation of the election in 91 polling units across 18 LGAs.

The electoral body had declared the election inconclusive and offered to conduct supplementary election in units where the election was cancelled. It had also given the APC a window to field a substitute candidate for the supplementary poll.

But the PDP condemned the INEC’s position, saying no known law or constitutional provision allowed the substituting of candidates, once the ballot process has commenced. The party has threatened to challenge INEC’s decision in court.

“The PDP completely rejects the decision of INEC in yielding to the unlawful prompting of a clearly partisan Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Mallam Abubakar Malami, to allow APC to substitute a candidate in the middle of an election, even when such has no place in the Constitution and the Electoral Act.

“With the unfortunate death of Prince Abubakar Audu, the APC has no valid candidate in the election, leaving INEC with no other lawful option than to declare the PDP candidate, Capt. Idris Wada, as the winner of the election,” the communiqué said.

Although the Tiv traditional council is yet
