10k for an interactive website? Hey... come on man...you and your people gathered 10k to do a dynamic site? No offence intended but that's rediculous. Lets say the developer registered your website name and hosted it for 3k. Then his workmanship will be 7k! Anyone who accepts that offer from you WILL NOT deliver what you outlined. That project should start at 100k! 10x what you're offering. mega jay: the price am getting from u guys is just too much for me and my ppl to handle. anybody ready to work with me with my 10k budget? |

oluchi jud: like someone asked?... Wat if one has Xampp already?... Wat wld b d installation process?... Btwn wordpress n joomla, wch is more flexible? If you have XAMPP already installed. Then access the Joomla file folder in your htdocs in the root directory through the localhost server on your browser and begin the Joomla installation ie. C://localhost/htdocs/JoomlaTraining. Where JoomlaTraining is the folder where you have your extracted Joomla Files. Your installation will start. Remember to create your database and its user as you will need those parameters during the installation process. As for flexibility between Joomla and Wordpress. Wordpress deals more with sites that are content driven like blogs while Joomla is very versatile in creating more complex sites like ecommerce sites, jobs board, social media etc. Joomla can also do content driven sites as well. Joomla has an edge when it comes to community. |
kingthreat: Website deveoper without a website. How can I hire you? Most times I wonder why a website developer will give a Yahoo! Gmail or any other free hosted email to a potential client. What message are you sending? Convincing a client to use the site's email you developed for him is one sure way to keep sure a client. |

obasy09: Please gurus in the house. I need info on how to purchase a domain and hosting space for my website. I will appreciate any useful info here. Thanks. What the op actually wants is "how to" and not "where to". Though the "where to" can come later after showing "how to". Here are a few steps for you to register a domain name and host it. 1. Determine your desired domain name eg www.obasy09.com. 2. Go to a website hosting company online eg http://www.SpringWebHost.com. 3. Enter your desired domain name into the domain name search box, if the domain name is available for you to register, then you can proceed to choose a hosting plan. And if the domain name is not available then you can choose a new name. You may also choose a hosting plan and then will be asked to choose a domain name for the plan. **Hosting plan means the hosting space. This is often partitioned in Gigabytes (G) eg. 5G, 10G etc. 4. Proceed from there to enter your personal details. 5. The last step is to make payment. From the way you sounded, you seem naive in this matter, so I'll recommend a local host for you because if you use a foreign host that you cannot easily reach, you may be lost in the crowd and you may likely also loose your domain name and its contents. So if you can choose a domain name (your desired website name) now, we can host you at http://SpringWebHost.com. The hosting plans are as follow. 5G is N6000, 10G is N11000 and Unlimited is N25000 |

idsamoo: Bundled wit AMPPS sir!Ok. Did you make any alterations to the application files, if so, then revert. MySQL usually don't give issues, Apache does most times. One other question, do you have any other related program like WAMPP or XAMPP running or installed? If yes, you need to uninstall them because there is bound to be a conflict. If the above didn't work, uninstall and reinstall AMPPS. You may also get support from http://ampps.com. That's the official site of that application. Please let us know how you are faring. |

Your comments above about Nigeria made me have a very hard laugh. Let me quickly explain something about website hosting to you. We don't have servers here in Nigeria and very few countries in the world have servers. Most hosting firms including A7 Hosting where you hosted your site and many Nigerian hosting companies are resellers at some certain level. There is no difference. A7 Hosting may be reselling for the same company that the Nigerian company you deem inefficient is also reselling for. The major difference though not all the time, is the level of customer service. I've used foreign firms for years before establishing http://SpringWebHost.com. Some foreign hosts are worse than Nigerian firms. Best of services to you from A7. What's your URL? elizabethsylv: Thanks ZinoFego, I followed the same format you applied.... |
nimbles: well done! pls for me using Wampp. will i first create the data base before going to privileges only privileges sorry im a bit confuseI hope it is phpmyadmin that you are using. If it is, then to make creating a database and its user easier for you, instead of creating the database first before the user and subsequently adding the user to the database, just click on Users...scroll down in the next window and click add user. Choose local as host, then enter the user's name, eg joomxyz and a password eg user123 Scroll down to see: Database for user 1. Check: Create database with same name and grant all privileges Scroll down a little to see: Global privileges (Check All /Uncheck All) Click: "Check All" in the Global privileges (Check All /Uncheck All). From the above, our 1. Database name: joomxyz 2. Username: joomxyz 3. Password: user123. But if you have challenges doing this, just create a database called joomxyz. By default, this database user name is root and its password is blank ie it has no password. So your own parameters will now be 1. Database name: joomxyz 2. Username: root 3. Password: (empty). |

Now, in the phpmyadmin environment, click on Users..then below it, you will see, Add user, click on it. The add user environment opens. 1. Enter User name, in this case lets use: joomxyz 2. Then under Host, select local 3. Password: user123 4. Re-type(password): user123. Scroll down to see: Database for user 1. Please note the above parameters because we will soon need them to install our Joomla site. If you have done everything as specified above, you will have a screenshot as the one shown below.

Now that you have a server, lets deal with the Joomla file that you downloaded. The file is compressed so you need an extracting software like WinRar to extract the file to a folder. Lets name this folder as JoomlaTraining. This means all the Joomla files are inside the JoomlaTraining Folder. Next, you will copy the JoomlaTraining folder to the a subfolder called www in your AMPPS folder. By default, AMPPS would be installed to your c:\ drive. This means the JoomlaTraining will be in this path. c:\Ampps\www\JoomlaTraining. WAMPP and WAMPP will have similar path. Now lets install Joomla but before we do, lets create a database and a user for the database. Creating a database: . Open your browser and type: localhost:8080/phpmyadmin and then press enter. You'll have a screenshot as the one below.

If your installation of AMPPS has gone as I outlined, by the time you type: localhost:8080 on your browser, you'll see the screen below.

infoman007: Thanks for your response, are saying that Joomla is better than dreamweaverThey are different apps for different uses. Joomla is a content management system where everything is already made for you to work with. So you don't need to learn PHP, MySQL before you can start doing dynamic websites. But if you are experienced and want to code your websites yourself, then dreamweaver is a better option. But give and take, I'll always opt for Joomla, it saves time and resources. |
The AMPPS file is an executable file (.exe). So install it on your computer. After the installation, open its user interface and start Apache and MySQL. If all went well, the afore-mentioned services will start. MySQL usually does start but you may have problem with the Apache and this usually an issue relating to another port using port:80. To fix this, on the AMPPS user interface, click Apache, then Configuration. The configuration file will open in a text editor like notepad. Go the line 49 of that file and change Listen 80 to Listen 8080, save the file. Restart the Apache. Open your browser and type: localhost:8080 and press enter. Your system now has a local server that will enable us develop the Joomla site as though we were online. If you have any issues with configuring your local server. Please you may ask before we proceed. |
