Politics / Pro-ndume Protesters Give Saraki 3-day Ultimatum To Reverse Suspension by ztanleechima(m): 6:56pm On Apr 04, 2017 |
ABUJA-CONSTITUENTS and supporters of suspended senator Ali Ndume ,stormed the National Assembly in their number Tuesday, to register their grievances over last week’s suspension of the senator. The protesters, who started their action around 7:30 when workers were resuming for work, barricaded the main entrance gate to the legislative house thereby causing human and vehicular traffic on the road leading inside the complex. To prevent some of them entering inside the complex to cause damage, security men took strategic positions while workers were redirected to pass through the entrance gate of the Office of Secretary to State Government, SGF. The protesters, whose action caused unbearable inconveniences to workers and early morning visitors, accused the Senate President, Bukola Saraki of masterminded the action against the Borno South Senatorial District representative ,just as they asked that the Senate President must be removed. The aggrieved protesters also demanded that Saraki must prevail on the Senate to reverse the action within three days, failure of which they threatened larger protests. The protesters, who came under different groups, including Internally Displaced Persons, were seen chanting pro-Ndume songs just as they carried placards with different inscriptions such as “Ndume again Insha Allah’’, who is afraid of Ibrahim Magu?” ,Stop undermining PMB’’ , “Saraki is a curse among others. One of the leaders of the groups, Mr Joseph Okwuama told newsmen that if the lawmaker was not recalled, they would stage several protests across the Federal Capital Territory for seven days. Okwuama, who is the National Coordinator, All Progressives Congress ,APC Movement, said the suspension of Ndume was uncalled for. He said: “We are talking about corruption in the country. As Nigerian youths we have to work together in support if the anti-corruption war. “Corruption is not all about money. What the National Assembly did is corruption. The suspension of Ndume is corruption. “Ndume’s suspension did not follow due process. The man did not do anything. “We are giving the National Assembly three days and if they refuse Nigerians will go the street of Abuja and protest for one week.” Muhammad Tanko, leader of indigenes from Borno South, Ndume’s constituency, said the constituency could not afford not to have representation for six months. He said: “the suspension of our senator for six months by the Senate is illegal when the constitution allows for suspension of only 14 days. “Saraki must go. He knows what Ndume did for him before he became President’’ Naima, Sale, wife of Chairman, IDPs in Karama Jiji camp in the Federal Capital Territory, said the lawmaker had been of help to internally displaced persons and should not be made to suffer for nothing. Recall that Senator Ndume was suspended Wednesday ,last week by the Senate for asking the Upper legislative Chamber to investigate allegations of fake customs papers and certificate forgery against senators Bukola Saraki Dino Melaye,APC,Kogi West respectively. An online platform had accused Saraki of importing a Range Rover SUV without paying appropriate imports duty, and attempting to clear the vehicle with falsified papers. Also, Melaye was accused of falsely claiming to have graduated from Ahmadu Bello University. But the Senate, in line with recommendations of its Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, who was mandated to probe the allegations, cleared the duo and slammed Ndume a six-month suspension. www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/pro-ndume-protesters-give-saraki-3-day-ultimatum-reverse-suspension/ |

Crime / Remove Bail Is Free Inscription Because Bail Not Free – CLO by ztanleechima(m): 5:39pm On Apr 04, 2017 |
The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has called for removal of the inscription “Bail is Free’’ from police stations and law courts, saying that it is misleading. In a statement in Lagos on Tuesday, the state Chairman of CLO, Mr Ehi Omokhuale, said that bail had not been free, and that the public should be properly informed. “The CLO upholds that the “Bail is Free’’ inscription in our police stations and law courts is not only an institutionalised fraud against the citizenry, but a practice that makes our human rights stance a laughing stock in the eyes of the civilised world. “We demand, therefore, that bail fees charged by the police and our law courts for the different offences should be published and the “Bail is Free’’ inscription replaced with “Bail Fees’’ Omokhuale said. He also called on the state police command, local governments in the state and Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) to curb extortion among their men and agents. Omokhuale also urged the National Union of Road Transport Workers and Road Employers Association of Nigeria to also call their men to order. “Extortion on Lagos roads has become unceasingly unnerving and an eyesore. “Police road blocks mounted with sticks, drums tyres and firewood at various odd parts of the city is far from being the standard mode of policing. “The crude operational style sometimes used by LASTMA and Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) personnel, leaves much to be desired and has no place in a modern city structure,’’ he said. www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/remove-bail-free-inscription-bail-not-free-clo/ |
Crime / Police Arrest 5 Suspects, Rescue Kidnapped Victim In Anambra by ztanleechima(m): 5:09pm On Apr 04, 2017 |
The Police in Anambra say they have arrested five persons for alleged kidnap and rescued a victim at Okpoko, near Onitsha, in Anambra. SP Sunday Okpe, the Grand Commander, Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) in the state, said this in an interview with newsmen in Onitsha on Tuesday.Okpe said that the suspects were arrested on April 2, following a tip-off. “On April 2 morning, men of the FSARS stormed a major hideout of suspected kidnappers and rescued a victim. “Five persons who are members of a kidnap syndicate, were arrested and they are helping with the investigation.” According to him, the hoodlums used the hideout which is a “no-go” area in Okpoko, as detention camp for abducted victims. However, a pro-Biafra group, the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM), has called for the release of the suspects, claiming that the arrested persons were not kidnappers but security guards. Mr Emmanuel Omenka, a zonal leader of the group, who criticised the action of the police, explained that the alleged hideout was the operational office of the group in the area. “We do not know where they took our five members to; they took two of our motorcycles, ransacked our office and even invited the soldiers to help them kill us,’’ he alleged. www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/police-arrest-5-suspects-rescue-kidnapped-victim-anambra/ |

Health / 7 Ways To Maintain Weight Loss by ztanleechima(m): 4:34pm On Apr 04, 2017 |
Probably one of the most frustrating things ever is to go through all the work and effort to lose weight, and then in the blink of an eye, you gain back all your lost weight with some extra pounds. 7 ways to help maintain weight loss to avoid gaining back the excess weight. 1.Change Your Mindset Avoid thinking of how you are eventually going to be free to eat whatever whenever when you finally lose the excess weight, and start accepting the very important fact that you became as big as you once were because you were nonchalant and careless with your eating. You thus need to change your lifestyle and start eating the right way at the right time, not eating whatever whenever. Be Mindful of Your Food Intake The exercise of watching what you eat is something that will never stop even after losing some or all of your excess weight. You should always be watchful of what you eat and how much you eat. Eat out of respect for your body, don’t be reckless with your food intake, don’t subscribe to just eating anything because you feel you can. Avoid Restrictive Diets Crash diets, detox diets and restrictive diets are three of the worst things ever conceived to help individuals lose weight. Because of how restrictive they are, they actually slow your metabolism and shift your appetite-regulating hormones which are two of the main factors that contribute to subsequent weight gain. Rather than considering these diets and their extreme and near impossible rules, stick with lifestyle changes that will help you develop habits you can incorporate to help maintain your weight loss in the long run. Don’t be Immobile Physical activity is important to maintain weight loss. If you’re not a gym or an exercise person, engage in activities that get you moving as opposed to just sitting and lounging all day. Physical activity helps to burn off extra calories, increase your metabolism and achieve energy balance. This energy balance means you burn the same or close to the same number of calories that you consume. As a result, your weight is more likely to remain the same. Stay Hydrated Don’t be so quick to chew on something, consider drinking water the next time you feel like eating something without actually being hungry. Most times, you really are just thirsty not particularly hungry. Water promotes fullness and helps you keep your calorie intake in check. Drinking water before meals also helps reveal your true level of hunger and reduces calorie intake by more than 10%. Get Back On Wagon As Soon As Possible Holidays, vacations, owambe’s and many other celebrations and activities happen that interfere with your plan to eat properly and responsibly. It happens. Even models fall off the wagon and overeat or eat carelessly sometimes. What matters is for you to get back on course as soon as possible. Make it a learning experience, not a failure. Remember, weight maintenance is a journey not a sprint. Don’t Do It Alone Weight maintenance is easier when you have support and are accountable to people. Get some help from family, friends and even co-workers you can trust to help keep you in check when they see you are starting to fall off the wagon. www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/7-ways-maintain-weight-loss/ |
