NYSC 2018: You Are Acting Incompetent, Please Listen To The
Cries Of Your Students Now, GYASO National Coordinator Tells
MOUAU VC.
The national coordinator of GIVE THE YOUTHS A SKILL
ORGANIZATION (GYASO), Comr. Casmir C Nguzoro has called
on the attention of the vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara
University of Agriculture Umudike Abia State, to listen to the cries
on his students who graduated since two years and still waiting to
serve.
He made this call when some students paid him a courtesy visit with
regards to their planned peaceful protest in the school.
According to one of the affected students, who identified himself as
Mr Henry with tears in his eyes had this to say "I wish to criage
your indulgence of the persistent delay being suffered by graduates
of three departments in Michael Okpara University, Umudike. The
Departments of Chemical Engineering, Environmental Management
& Toxicology and Library Science.
Several concerted efforts have been made to see to the end of this
delay but the current school administration seem not to be interested
in resolving it.
After making several efforts to find out the problem and get it
resolved, the school has not come up with any reasonable way
forward as they keep dribbling us. And this has led to us missing
several sets of the compulsory National Youth Service Corp
Program, NYSC from 2016 till date.
Due to this delay, some of us have seen job opportunities and
scholarships we would have grabbed easily pass us by.
Therefore,
We have decided to embark on a peaceful protest on Monday 6th of
August 2018. The Aim is to disrupt administrative activities
tomorrow and get a reasonable way forward tomorrow.
We have involved Channels Television, TVC Nigeria,
AmnestyInternational, Four Radio Stations in Umuahia, and
Now"
In his reply, the GYASO boss feeling so concerned, called on the
attention of the vice chancellor of the school "Prof Francis Otunta,
in his words" Prof Francis Otunta is a man I have always respected
so much, his academic excellence has always being a source of
inspiration and motivation to many students who has in one way
or the other come across him. But in this case, am so bittered and
finds it hard to believe that him (Prof Otunta) can act this
incompetent and unconcerned, I beg of him to listen to the cries of
this his students"
Allowing these students to waste their time and years at home doing
nothing all because of the incompetence from the side of the
administration of Michael Okpara University, is uncalled for and a
threat to not just the education system of our country, but to the
democracy of our country. "Therefore I call on the attention of the
Nigerian Senate and federal house of Assembly, the attention of the
Honourable minister for education and all the Youths in Nigeria, to
come let's fight this act of inhumanity on these innocent and vibrate
students who should be allowed to serve their fathers land with their
fellow youths.
In conclusion he advised the students to try and acquire a good skill
while they wait for their NYSC. According to him, skill development
and acquisition will go along way in the growth of the economy of
Nigeria and its citizens, more especially now that the rate of
unemployment in the country is so alarming and the number of
civil servants in the civil service commission is so much that most
state governors finds its hard to pay salaries completely and as
when due.
