I support Ben Murray-Bruce for President (of Nigeria).

Senator Ben is 1,000,000,000,000,000 times better than the incumbent discombobulated lunkhead.

I'm talking about Dictator Mumuhammadu Buhari in case you want to know.

The dictator promised to equal the Naira value to dollar, but see what we are getting today: a totally downward reverse.

Not just that, the numskulled and vacuous Buhari has obliterated Nigeria in all ramifications.
EducationDates And Schedules For JAMB UTME 2016/2017 by Zurielistic(op): 11:59am On Feb 17, 2016
This year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination will begin on February 29, the authorities of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board have announced.

Over one million candidates will sit for examination, which the board said, would last for seven days.

JAMB’s Head of Public Relations, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, who confirmed this in an interview with one of our correspondents on Tuesday, added the board would use about 500 Internet-complaint centres in the country for the Computer-based Test.

The examination, he added, would hold in seven other centres outside Nigeria.

According to him, the centres are in the United Kingdom, Ghana, Cameroon, Republic of Benin, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Ethiopia.

The board, earlier, in a statement, on Tuesday, urged candidates to print their examination notification from February 18, noting that it had completed arrangements for a smooth conduct of the test.

It added, “Candidates are urged to print their examination notification from Thursday, February 18, 2016 for the schedules of their examination. The notification contains their date, time of examination and venue. Candidates are to adhere strictly by these schedules, as there will be no rescheduling of any examination if a candidate misses his/her date or time of examination.”

“They are to be in their various centres 30 minutes before their time. Again candidates are advised to check their schedules properly as JAMB will not condone any excuse in the event of candidate missing his or her time and date of examination.

“Candidates are to also note that they can visit JAMB accredited Computer-Based Centre or any cybercafé to print their slip or any place of their choice. It could be done at their homes.”

In the 2015 UTME, no fewer than 1.5million candidates sat for the examination in about 400 centres.

The exercise, which experienced initial technical challenges, lasted for 10 days.

Mods, You might want to help NLers who are JAMB candidates here. Most of them are still thinking that the reprinting of slips will start on Feb 22 as earlier speculated and that the exam will last till March 14. But there are actually new dates and new scheduling which mean candidates would have to study/act/prepare earlier than they may have planned. Just suggesting...

PoliticsSupreme Court Gives Reasons For Affirming Akwa Ibom, Delta, Oyo, Yobe Elections by Zurielistic(op): 10:36pm On Feb 15, 2016
The Supreme Court on Monday adduced reasons for affirming Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as validly elected governor of Akwa Ibom.

Justice Chima Nweze, who gave the reasons, said that the decision of the lower court was a mis-judgment based on only facts and not on the provisions of the laws.

Nweze said the decisions of the lower court swayed the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the use of card readers for the election.

He further held that the lower court denied the governor fair hearing.

“From the study of the evidence brought before us Udom Emmanuel won the highest lawfully cast votes.

“This has placed the court to set aside the judgments of the two lower courts as the other parties challenging his victory could prove otherwise.

“The lower courts were wrong to have cancelled elections in 18 and subsequently the entire 31 Local Government Areas of the state on the basis of non-compliance,’’ he held.

“While we commend the introduction of the card readers, the innovation, however, cannot supersede the voters register.

“The extant laws of the federation provides for the use of voters register but the card reader irrespective of its importance does not have a place in any extant law of the land,’’ Nweze held.

Nweze, therefore, held that the tribunal was wrong to base it judgment on non-compliance with the use of card readers.

On allegation of violence and irregularities during the election, Nweze said Umana Umana and the All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to prove the allegations.

“The two respondents were not able to prove the allegations beyond reasonable doubt because they failed to bring witnesses from all the polling units to substantiate their claims,’’ Nweze said.

Nweze held that to prove non-accreditation, the respondents ought to have tendered the voters register and then demonstrate it how it was abused.

“I do align myself to earlier decision of the apex court that the provision of the law recognizes the voters register as the only key element to conduct any elections,” he said.

While noting that INEC had power to make subsidiary regulations regarding conduct of election, Nweze held that the regulations must conform to constitutional provisions.

Nweze held that the extant laws did not give room for arbitrary nullification of an election.

“Petitioners have got to prove that there was substantial non-compliance in all polling units before we could take such allegation serious,” he said.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja had nullified the Akwa Ibom governorship election of April 11.

The governor’s election was challenged by the APC and its candidate, Umana.

At the election tribunal, the governor secured partial victory, as it ordered a rerun in 18 out of the state’s 31 local government areas.

The governor challenged the ruling, insisting he won in all 31 local government areas, but the Court of Appeal went on to nullify the entire election.

Justices Mary Peter-Odili and Clara Ogunbiyi had hinged on the above reasons to justify the return of Delta,Yobe and Oyo States governors.

SportsSee New FIFA Rankings And Super Eagle's New Position by Zurielistic(op): 9:20pm On Feb 04, 2016
The victory over Niger and a draw recorded against Tunisia in the African Nations Championships, by the home- based Super Eagles, have helped improve the fortunes of Nigeria on the monthly rankings released on Thursday by the world football governing body, FIFA.
The Super Eagles, who were ranked 66th in January, have now slightly improved to 63rd position in the February rankings just released.
The home-based Eagles, who were tipped to go all the way in the CHAN tournament, failed to go beyond the first round and will now have to buckle up for the crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Egypt coming up next month first in Kaduna and then Cairo.
On the continent, Ivory Coast remains the best ranked, and are at number 28 in the world. Cape Verde is second after gaining six positions while Algeria and Ghana slot in at numbers three and four in the continent and 36 and 41 in the world.
Senegal is the fifth best team in Africa and number 45 in the world. With the current 20 best-ranked teams yet to play an A-game in 2016, the top 18 positions remain unchanged for the February edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking.
Belgium, Argentina and Spain hold their increasingly familiar top three slots while Hungary (19, plus 1) and Turkey (20, plus 1) enter the top 20 thanks to Côte d’Ivoire’s exit (28, minus 9).
FIFA gave a special mention to CHAN hosts, Rwanda, who moved up six places to 85 in the latest ranking. The Wasps won three of their six matches played since early January, while also closing out 2015 with a shock-upset over African heavyweights Côte d’Ivoire in an international friendly played on 16 December 2015. The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 3 March 2016.

PoliticsAkwa Ibom Elections: See APC/Umana Umana's Reaction To Supreme Court Ruling by Zurielistic(op): 8:59pm On Feb 04, 2016
– Akwa Ibom APC gubernatorial candidate
in April 2015 polls, Mr. Umana Umana,
lambastes legal system for alleged election
irregularities

– Urges Akwa Ibom people to continue to
pray for much-desired change in the state
and nation Mr. Umana Umana, the All Progressives
Congress governorship candidate in Akwa
Ibom has revealed that Udom Emmanuel’s
victory in the last gubernatorial elections of
April, 2015 is questionable but he trusts in
God to provide solace and comfort for the
people marginalized by the Nigerian legal
system.

Umana held that the Supreme Court judgment which
presented Udom Emmanuel as a rightfully
elected governor of the state in the April,
11, 2015 polls “calls for very serious soul-
searching by our nation”.

In a press statement on Thursday, February
4, Mr. Umana said the Court of Appeal
issued an indicting statement in respect to
the Akwa Ibom governorship election
petition, a statement that must not be
overlooked.

Quoting the appeal court statement in
respect to Mr. Udom Emmanuel’s election,
Mr. Umana said: “May this country never
again experience the violence and thuggery
found to have taken place in Akwa Ibom
State during the Governorship elections
held on 11th April 2015.

Mr. Umana added that following the
incidence of election irregularity in the
governorship poll, the people went to court
for justice but were let down by an unfair
legal system.

He said: “As law-abiding citizens we went to
court to seek justice after the disputed
elections, as advised by many people and
election monitors, including the United
States Embassy and the European Union,
which had reached independent
conclusions that the elections were marred
by widespread irregularities.

“Our hope was that the judiciary would heal
the wounds and provide succour for our
people who were traumatised and
brutalised during the elections, especially
the families who lost their loved ones. But
that was not to be.”

Mr. Umana expressed confidence in the
people particularly the supporters of the
APC in Akwa Ibom saying even though the
movement for change had been impeded in
the state, it will eventually come.
He was optimistic, adding that “no one can
stop the march of an idea that has been
embraced by the mass of the people”.
He urged the people of Akwa Ibom to
remain peaceful and prayerful for the
progress of the state and the nation in
general.

He added: “We trust God, who is the God of
justice, to provide solace and comfort for
those who could not get justice within the
framework of our legal system.
“Ultimately we would all be accountable to
God for our actions.”
