If you can apply for the job and be employed, why don't you take it for now UNTIL YOU GET A BETTER OFFER TO A BETTER POSITION/FUTURE. A clear picture of pride and despising the days of little beginning. You can even get the job just to save/build capital to start your own business. It doesn't diminish anything from you neither does it subtract anything from your future. As some graduates dey do yanga, some graduates don apply same job chap-chap.
This is far from pride isue...why must he use HND/B.Sc.as de qualification?it is obvious n glaring he is looking down on Nigeria gaduates....yes,I agree that a grafuate can start from any where but he shudnt av make de requirement for odinary driving a degree or HND...tink twice ma frend, after four or five years in d university n some body tells u that driving is all u can fit for,wud u be happy?

micath09: Going through all the comments so far, it is appaulling and sad to imagine how nigerian youths thinks. There should be pride in whatever brings you dignity. I was a Second class upper degree holder in accounting before moving to United States, guess what; I took up odd jobs i would never do in Nigeria all because of our pride and our ways of thinking. I joined the Army a year later, but today, i'm proud to choose a career in truck driving. I earned a week, what shell worker will earn in a month and i'm progressively pursuing a law degree. One thing leads into other when you have a vision. Do you guys know that having an experience in truck driving and owning one in Nigeria could earn you fifteen million in a month. My advice to you all is to learn to be productive in anything you do. Education in itself is not a means, but a means to an end. So, it's all about innovation and being industrious, 2/3 of of U.S work force comes from private businesses and not dependence on the government for job. Besides you must be very inteligent to get certified as a CDL driver in America. It entails knowing all the parts, the brake chambers, the air system, correct backing and packing techniques, how the transmission works, proper knowledge of geography and understanding international road signs.
thanks!!

But really, where is the world going? I can bet that some Masters holder would apply for this job (in the meantime) "hiding" their Masters certificate.

In a country like Nigeria where roads are bad and we know how insecure our highways are, this offer is really demeaning. Ha!! If I'm jobless, I can do this job in Yankee or JD. But in Naija, never!

I really praise those who have burned night candles at various universities who have taken the bull by the horn to roll steering wheels in Nigeria. Ah! Where u'd have to create social amenities by urself.

And after this job, what next? No work experience. Nothing. Only if they wanna work for a while to raise funds for business. Its really pathetic!

Taiw: After seeing the Dangote graduate driver recruitment advert, I said to myself that this man must be silly for disrespecting unemployed graduates in Nigeria. I cant imagine a Bsc or Hnd holder as a truck driver. Well I can only blame our leader for making him run a monopoly market and not providing jobs for our youths. After 4-5yrs in school, you den become a truck driver. Dangote is crazy. Nigeria is decaying gradually.

University graduates drive trunks and cabs in the US as well...in fact trunk drivers in the US makes a lot of money even more than their fellow graduates that works in an office setting.

Goshen360: To my graduate friends who had insulted me as if I don't know what am talking about.

Let me help your "ego/pride" in this matter. I attended Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State and graduated in 1999. I did my Industrial Training (I.T) at Administrative Staff College of Nigeria - ASCON in Badagry, Lagos State. While I was serving, I met a colleague and we became friends. After completing our I.T, my friend went back for his H.N.D while I went for B.Sc in Lagos State University.

I engaged in a family business while I was in school, started a Grasscutter farming that now turned out to be one of the biggest Grasscutter farm in Nigeria today. How? Just in a little way. Today, this Grasscutter business has now grown so big that it became a source of income for my family while am away in abroad. From that little Grasscutter business, I was able to create another business - a Cybercafe business which I started in 2002/03. I started my Cybercafe business after my friend finished his HND and he was looking for job. My thought was that, we could work together creating job instead of looking for job, we should rather create job for ourselves. My friend had this mentality of looking for white collar job as he always wanted to work in an office environment but I had a different mentality of creating job because I understand you will only be helping someone to make money when you work for them.

I make bold to tell you that, I left Nigerian since 2008 and my friend is still searching for his white collar job. Alas! he hasn't got one even as we speak. Ladies and Gentlemen, the fact that we're all graduates doesn't mean we'll start with a white collar job. My advice is very simple and clear, if you are a graduate and you feel you can do this job offer from Dangote, kindly put your pride/ego aside and start from somewhere. Like I said, you can take this job and build capital from whatever income you earn to start your own business. In my years of business administration and management studies/Economics, I have come to know that YOU WILL ONLY BE MAKING PROFIT FOR YOUR EMPLOYER when you work for people while you are only paid "token" as wages, you being the one doing the main job. How then do you become your own boss? You either start from somewhere to build up capital or start your own business if you have your own capital.

That is what I am talking about. More grease to your elbow son cool.

Actually, the reason we're in this mess is due to bad governance and our daft mindset. Nigerians are like dodos or Lemmings, one person does one thing, everyone follows, regardless of if it's the wise decision.

In the 70s, someone woke up and said "I will only hire bank tellers who have university degrees". So everyone left their School leaving Cert and Grade 6 and ran to Uni. They now went "only masters holders" sharp sharp, we all applied for student visa. We found oil, and no-one farmed again. One person imported clothe, now all our clothes must be imported and we refuse to sew in Naija unless it's lace or ankara, Tara became a makeup artist, now every chick is painting face (90% don't know what they're doing), Tuface made money and Don Jazzy bought a nice car, no young man is studying anything else except music production and singing rubbish. Someone did oil and gas, now we are all fighting to get a share of an oil field (yet the wells are drying up).

We don't diversify. If we did, there's plenty to go around. Wake up and be different. My friend was a millionaire at 25 in Lagos because he woke up and realised there were too many architects and he didn't want to work in a bank for a lousy pay and he liked to draw. Today, he's a Creative Director. Pastor Taiwo Odukoya says "I've seen people go without phones, but I've never seen them not eat. Agriculture is the way".

Do you know how many countries don't grow enough food, that Nigeria has soo much land and waste to produce organic fertilizer, that can be imported? Things that need Engineers and Scientists. But hey, you wanna be a Graduate Truck Driver earning... what was it again...

Not much wrong with the offer, but knowing naija, next thing you know is that Access Bank will be hiring B.Sc holders as security agents at the front door. Then Patience Jonathan University, Yenagoa Bayelsa state will be opened to offer a B.Sc in Banking Hall security. Complete with Masters in Jamaica.

Thank you for proving my point.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this man above did NOT need a University B.Sc to improve his life. He went straight for Business. However, if he had given into Naija mentality, he would have spent millions and would be at a Masters' level earning a salary or applying to Dangote as a Truck Driver. He is what is classed as a Skilled Worker. He found his niche and went for it, and when you find your sweet spot in life, you succeed.

Reason No. 3,579,460 You need to teach your child Basic @#$*0! Economics and Social Studies, so they can make informed decisions and not run off to College to be an Educated, then fight for the same jobs a Skilled worker is applying for.
The Dangote job should be targeted at people LIKE THIS FELLOW.
Because some of us are Educateds, some are Skilled Workers and some of us are Unskilled Workers. There is NO SHAME in being in any of those groups, as we need a diversified Society to survive. Stop chasing the money and find your niche, the money will chase you like it is a Uni babe and you are D'banj grin

stagger:

I think you and others voicing the same opinion as you are, should have their heads examined.

A man has opted to drop the number of unemployed youths by giving them gainful employment. Yet some of you who have never paid a kobo to anyone as salary in your lives are talking babash.

What defines the kind of job a graduate should have in today's economy where a country like Spain whose banks can afford to loan Real Madrid money to buy Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka have seen unemployment rise to 25%?

There is dignity in labour, not in staying idle and I can tell you that there are many people who will take up that offer.

How much do banks pay HND holders? N15,000 the last I checked. I am very sure that a truck driver with Dangote will earn MUCH MORE than this. And there will be opportunities to get exposed to the intricacies of the haulage part of the cement business, which will come in very handy if that same individual will be able to buy a truck to start haulage biz later in life.

People should wake up and be realistic. I have met graduates who are bus conductors. I know a bus driver in PH who has only one leg, and rather than go begging like many people in his position, he has taken it upon himself to make himself useful to himself and his family.

You are all witnesses to the unbelievable Kleptomania going on in GEJ's regime. I know many government agencies where people siphon off millions of Naira in out of pocket expenses. Go to a typical government agency in Abuja and see how much is spent on purchase of rice during Christmas season.

Many of you commenting need to come and live and work in Abuja so you are exposed and see for yourself how money is stolen in this country on a daily basis. Some of you do not even know the story behind employment of coaches in NFF. Many of you do not even know how much contractors for some of these programs run by the Presidency collect. You probably do not even know how much money is spent on provision of snacks for meetings in government agencies.

This is money that can be used to provide employment for Nigerian youths. Now someone has taken it upon himself to provide employment for graduates. Some of these graduates you even defend cannot even write a sentence in correct English. I interview many of them in my business weekly.

You guys need to wake up. I for one do not like Dangote's monopolistic way of doing business, but I will salute him on this one.
.sory to tell u dis...u just lied, kindly mention one bank in Nigeria that pays NCE/OND 15000?not to talk of HND...u guys should be realistic for once...yes,he is trying in Job creation no doubt, but d isue is dis,why must HND/B.Sc,B.A,B.Eng be his criteria for d job?is it Marketing plus driving role?dia is no conection between University education with driving of trucks or being a bus conductor, cleaner, labourer or all de menial jobs u guys hav been mentioning...The trut is dis,giv honor to whom honor is due...are u guys saying that Nigeria graduates re all half baked?u guys always under rate our certificate n capability wch is very wrong...ist degree graduates from naija always go abroad n make gud results in masters n Phd programes,if they re not gud,dey can't do well outside...once again,am stil saying dat de vacancy caption is very wrong..better he says Vacancy"truck driver needed, qualification, minimum of O' level cert. @ Onegai,

Thank you. I had to amplify my point after I made the first comment to this thread. Some people dey abuse me. You see, our people need to change their "mentality". A yoruba adage says: owo igbe kii run. Meaning, money acquired from a messy job doesn't smell. What stops a graduate from working in a messy environment or from a little position until he/she can get something better. A ladder doesn't start from top to top, it starts from bottom to top.

Dangote has over 5000 trucks.

http://www.aggregateresearch.com/articles/22507/Dangote-acquires-5000-new-trucks-to-bring-down-transportation-costs.aspx?src=rss

That's 5,000 drivers ad probably 5,000 Truck boys. if you have goods worth N5,000,000 on a truck who would you rather manage your asset? Rack truck is worth like N5,000,000 pus the value of the goods on it.

Imagine all the logistics involved in coordinating 5,000 trucks daily !? Who will a age the fleet? Service the trucks and keep productivity, efficiency and profits high?

Which is more of a dead end job, being. A graduate bank employee or driving a state of the art truck ad managing logistics fo a multinational lieDangote? It's not for everyone. But like any other job the employer wants the best available talent. Give. The choice f a graduate and a dropout illiterate that can't read road signs o understand driving rules, who would ou trycst your N5,000,000 asset to? For the millions of unemployed and underemployed graduates, I am sure 5,000 will have their prayer of a decent paying job answered. And the very smart ones will ever age their high level logistics experience learnt from Dangote to establish shippingand transport firms.

In NYC graduate drive metro buses and earn $100,000 annually an a decent retirement plan.

Open you minds. You degree is but a worthless piece of paper. What you make of you education is what counts. An unemployed graduate s worth less than a drop out hawker. At least the hawker can support herself, while the graduate sits ad wait for employment lottery with no skill or experience to offer.

What if he wants to pay them handsomely? What's the starting salary for graduates in state and federal civil service? With this type of mentality, Nigeria is doomed.

Dont want to be a truck driver? Start your own company..oops, I forgot, you are too lazy and risk-averse to venture into anything, because you are looking for someone to underwrite your risk of failure in the name of "employment"
