Naval Brutality At Sapele by ndukwejoe(m): 2:44am On Aug 04, 2012
The woman in the picture is MRS. EVELYN WILKIE, the owner of "MEZ 20" an eatery in Sapele. About 3 weeks ago one Sunday evening at about 9.00pm, a couple walked into the eatery and asked to be served food and the man warned the attendant not to sell soured soup to them in the full glare of other customers. MRS. WILKIE answered that she does not sell soured food as the place is a decent place.
The woman responded that she should not insult her husband. There and then MRS. WILKIE told them that they wont sell food to them as she does not want people who would spoil her business. The woman started insulting her.
A female customer who was in the place answered and told them that they are disturbing the peace of the place and this earned her a slap and she retaliated, then a
fi
ght ensued and other customers separated them. The man was infurated and started threatening MRS. WILKIE that he had been embarrassed and that they are Naval Officers.
The woman rushed to their car which is a space wagon and brought out a canister of tear gas which she used to tear gas the whole place and other customers ran out for their safety. Then the couple left. Unknown to MRS. WILKIE they went to re-enforce. At about to 10pm the couple returned with about 10 Naval Officers in uniform and they started shooting sporadically to scare residents they forced their way through the padlocked protector and gave the staff the beating of their life and brought out and even broke the head of her security man.
MRS. WILKIE was brought out from where she was hid and the man who said he was embarrassed took an axe and said he would use her as a scape goat. He swung the axe at her and it hit her ankle and chopped it off. Seeing the mayhem they have caused they all left. It was good Nigerians that took her to the Hospital and it took the skills of an orthopaedic surgeon to put her in this shape that you see in the picture.
The matter has been reported to the Naval authorities in Sapele and the woman identified but the others have not been identified. I am told that investigations are still ongoing.
Now that we know the story, what can we do to ensure that this woman get the justice that she deserves.
Thank you for your concern. It is this woman now, it could be anybody's turn tomorrow so let us condemn it and ensure that this madness stops.

This case is as good as dead on arrival.

She can't identify the officers who committed the offence, so what does she expect the Navy to do?

Nairalanders have to take up this issue personally,
Ȋ̝̊̅† could have been anybody. Dis is a pure case of brutality.
Why would a NAVAL officer even try to get into a heat with a CIVILIAN?
A hustling aged woman for dat matter.
We need the names of these officers!
We need the navy to luk into this case. This is not warm.
Dis is heartless!

What inhumanity!!!
What wickedness!!!
Is this what their call to serve entails? Going about maiming civilians?
When the nation could really do with their services in combating a certain bloodletting group.
As far as excesses go this is the height of it!!!
Damn! A woman at that?!!!!!

It riles me this much cos they will most likely get away with this heineous act.
That's the reality of this sham of a country called Nigeria!

It is one thing to condone brutality from the military, but to cut of someone's limbs is simply barbaric and uncondonable. The FG and the Navy should use this as a disciplining example. Except for our bankrupt African minds, I do not see how a military can supersede the civility it was established to protect. Please this woman should take her case directly to the presidency through her National representatives, as well as institute legal action against the Navy and FG if she can identify the involved animal (lady) as a member of the Navy, the Uniform she wears, on which she claimed authority to commit such act are not personally hers, they are properties of the Nigerian Navy.

Well, it is a pity seeing the woman in that state of health. Sometimes, most of these local restaurants owners and their workers, got an attitude. I could remember a day a friend of mine took me and some friends to a restaurant to unwind. We told the woman that we needed local delicacy "Nkwobi" but that she should make sure it was fresh one not one that has spoilt in the fridge. She said she was gonna give us good one. She served us the first one and it was ok,and we requested for the second plate and she ended up serving us a rotten one.We called her attention , only for that mother fuc-cker to start arguing and insisted we pay. My friends were arguing, I paid the money to the woman and we left and that was the end. I told her, that she was only killing her business with her actions.

I respect u in this forum, but am surprise u have to make dis comment, I don't know if its true but most times guys in the force like misbehaving which must be condemned in the strongest available language. For God's sake it's the woman's business and therefore she reserves the right not to sell. An old woman for that matter. If it's true may Boko haram reward them accordingly.

While reading the story I thought the victim was actually young. However, regardless of age, this mayhem from the military must stop. It is a shame that the main objective of the military "to protect the country's border and its citizens" is being violated. Officers like this should be thrown to jail where they can rot away. They are a disgrace to the military and to the nation. This behaviour is peculiar to the Junior staff and officers. It is high time the military talked to their boys on behavioural conduct, rather than unleash dogs to the general populace. The woman should sue the Nigerian Navy as an organisation, sue the chief of Naval staff as the head, sue the female naval staff for perpetrating the act and if she can identify the rest, sue each and every one of them personally for damages. She should also sue for public nuisance (since there are witnesses this will fly), disruption of business and loss of income. The case should not be settled out of court because this is a criminal and civil case.

What's the name of the woman naval officer that was identified?

Thank God there are witnesses. Is there any further evidence to document what happened (video, pictures of the officers in action)?

We see these things happening all the time, yet some people on nairaland are still in support of military rule. Smh

The Military that is meant to protect us is acting just as bad as the Terrorists we fear.

How can you tear gas civilians just because someone disrespected you. As if that is not enough,
you go home, regroup, and then chop someone's ankle off. And someone here is talking about picking
battles wisely? They should be dismissed and then sent to prison. Because of some stupid uniform they wear
they are no more human beings abi.

Yeah, another case of brutality common with the Nigerian military, men of valour indeed. smh. Who knows if the 2nd lieutenant that shot a man twice at mushin has been prosecuted for murder or still walking free? Bunch of murderers.

There should be a naval Baracks somewhere around that area, I am sure a soldier who did not follow them on the bully mission would talk and name the culprits.
