Benin Police in Uromi, Edo State have arrested a male cashier (names withheld) with one of the old generation banks in Benin in connection with the killing of the chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Esan North East Local Government Area, Mr Daniel Akhibi.

Akhibi was said to have been shot dead by a six-man armed gang who trailed him to his house in Afuda village, Uromi in an Audi 80 car which bore no registration number. The suspects, according to the younger brother of the late NUT chairman, Kenneth, later made away with the deceased’s Mercedes Benz SUV car and mobile phones.

He explained that attempt to save the life of his brother was futile as he gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital. He further explained that his late brother’s car was later recovered the next day, along Poultry Road, opposite the university in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. According to police sources, the arrest of the cashier followed a debit alert of N20,000 on the deceased’s mobile phone, which the police recovered a day after he was murdered.

The cash withdrawal was said to have aroused curiosity of the Police who immediately swung into action and arrested the cashier who was suspected to have made the withdrawal from the late NUT chairman’s account.

When contacted yesterday, the Edo State Police Command spokesman, Mr. Anthony Airhuoyo (DSP), confirmed the report, saying, “the Police are investigating to get to the root of the incident.

Whoever considered the above as part of Jounalism must be sent back to primary school.

what / where is relationship between the Cashier in the bank and the debit alert on the deceased's phone a day after he died? does this "old generation bank" have only 1-cashier?

with the poor network services in Nigeria, people still do not know that an SMS alert can get to the recipient some days after a message was sent.

It is obvious that our security agencies are using innocent citizens as scapegoats to cover up their inability to tackle the security debacle that has bedeviled the country. Why not print the account holder's bank statement to authenticate the date and time the money was withdrawn. For any cash withdrawal to be made, the Customer Service Manager/Head of Operations as the case may be must authorize such withdrawal at most before the close of business.

Why are the basing their evidence on SMS alert without thorough investigation.

Above all, the topic is misleading in its entirety. Our journalists should learn to be professional, instead of giving the public misleading information just for the mere purpose of maximizing sales revenue.

IF THE CASHIER IS INNOCENT HE WILL ASSIST THE POLICE IN INVESTIGATING WHO CAME TO WITHDREW THE MONEY AT THE BANK.
