How Jonathan Spoils Niger Delta Warlords by jidsoon(m): 1:17pm On Aug 22, 2012
America’s Wall Street Journal today revealed the mind-boggling million dollar sums that the Nigerian government has been paying Niger Delta warlords to keep them off the oil pipelines in the past 12 months.

•Asari Dokubo
Mr. Dokubo Asari, the former warlord that first shot to national limelight collects $9million every year to keep his estimated 4000 soldiers at bay. ‘General’ Ateke Toms and ‘General‘ Ebikabowei Boyloaf Victor Ben collect $3.5million apiece while General Government Tompolo Ekpumopolo is the most priced of all: he gets $22.5 million yearly.

The newspaper said the figures were gotten from senior officials of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, which makes the payment direct to these warlords.

While Dokubo shrugged off the huge payment he receives, about N1.44 billion, as nothing unusual, there is the belief that the selective payments have bred some jealousy among other militants, not so rewarded, who in reaction continue to pillage Nigeria’s crude oil pipelines. Nigeria loses no less than 10 per cent of its crude production to oil thieves on prowl in the Niger Delta, despite the programme of pacification called the Amnesty Programme.

By Shell’s account, no less than 150,000 barrels of Nigeria’s production are stolen daily, a very low estimate in the eyes of many Niger Delta watchers.

The Wall Street Journal said in its report that government plans to spend $450 million on the amnesty programme this year alone, despite the increasing theft of crude in the region.

Said the respected journal: The gilded pacification campaign is offered up by the government as a success story. But others say the program, including a 2009 amnesty, has sent young men in Nigeria’s turbulent delta a different message: that militancy promises more rewards than risks.

. . . and that's why they want Nigeria to break by 2015. . .

Good that this is featured by the Wall Street Journal. If saharaporters produced this, we will have the usual crap about "Yarobus and almajiris parasites" dictating to the "owners of oil".

Let GEJ's massive enrichment and empowerment of the ND's criminal and militant class not go unnoticed. When the region becomes a total cauldron of criminality and death, ala "might is right", let Nigerians , including those from the SS/ND, be mature and responsible enough to put issues at the doors of a very corrupt and criminal President who did an 'Odili' or 'OBJ' against his own region whereas others would ordinarily be Mandela, Ataturk, Awolowo, Nkrumah, Sankara, Lumumba or Ghandi-like.

All the money is being spent on drinks, women and over-priced houses in Abuja and abroad now. These guys claimed to be fighting for Niger-Delta people but currently are too busy satisfying themselves. Like the northern masses just realized, the masses of ND will soon realize that having one of your "own" in power does not guarantee anything.

that is why there is the cry of federalism.in this unitary system of government having someone from your ethnic group means nothing to area the president comes from.very good eg what is happening to east west roads?

Spot on my brother !!! Nigerians should learn to put ethnicity and bias aside. Even our African neigbhours, previously saddled with self-imposed retrogression as we are, are learning to do this. Supporting the best for the most influential job in the land is the automatic security every region has that things will improve for everyone.

As it is now, and with the way things are going, there is every chance the ND will be set back badly by the actions of its "son".

Scour the net and you will find articles showing many from the ND wistfully praising a chronically ill "evil aboki" (Yar Adua) for doing more for the ND region than a "son of the soil". Under GEJ, it is the 'big boys' and militants 'chopping' while things are worsening for ordinary folks !!!.

Ethnic bigotry adults deliberately choose not to rise above will be the death of Nigeria. It gives opportunists like GEJ 'carte blanche' to do as they please yet still enjoy blind ethnic support.

The SS/ND is making the same mistake the SW made entertaining OBJ's malevolent, corrupt and destructive ways. The only difference is that the timing is very wrong. The North has serious issues that has now grown beyond the instigators as a threat capable of destroying Nigeria.

GEJ is towing the same path by cynically and deliberately creating a criminal/militant power base he will not be able to control in future that will transform into another big headache for Nigeria. We are currently witnessing so many acts of selfishness that makes it obvious Nigeria is probably doomed as a Nation.

I have heard several times from the grapevive how those socalled war lord literally kick and slap nigerian serving ministers for not obeying their mudane commands, like not giving a btch they recommend job or contract.

It is literally a gangster government, run by core gangsters that are ruthlessly out for what they can get for themselves. It is true they took the honey comb from the malu thieves and ota chimps, but the real nigerians are still suffering.

Trust me, you are more correct and accurate in your submission than you think. It will be the future albatross of the SS/ND that, due to ethnic bigotry many could not rise above, they squared up to the wrong folks ( "Yarobus and Almajiri parasites" ) while the enemy within was allowed to plunder their own region and set her back many decades via placing her in the hands of those with no business in Governance let alone determining the future direction of millions.

I have always known the truth. The only person that denies what has been/is going on in nigeria is the person that is just deliberately out to decieve the masses or the person that is stone foo-lish.

Is it not wonderful to see how snakes and scorpions like gbawe and the other vampires, are so concerned about us in the Niger Delta. Is anyone fooled? The Niger Delta should embrace dogs like these and reject their sons and daughters? This is the new mantra from these clowns.

Just in case you don't realize this, the worst son of our soil is better than any Yoruba parasite, not to talk of the camel humpers.

Feudalistic m0r0n !!! You mean the worst thugs, killers, kidnappers and rapists from your region are better than Soyinka and Col. Umar for example? What a sad bigot. Dokubo Asari, we did not hear peep from when Turai was dealing with GEJ, is certainly better than Femi Falana who marched and harassed that GEJ be sworn in according to the provisions of our constitution. Drunken clown.

Can you even pretend as if you have a brain for once in your wretched life? Look at how , as a vacuous and bigoted olodo, you confirm my argument about the ethnic jingoism fools like you cannot rise above that is seeing you ignore the far more deleterious actions of "your son" capable of potentially setting you back for decades?

How long do you people think you can exist on this nutritionally empty diet of ignoring the long term damage being done to your region because you prefer to fixate your attention distractingly on "parasites"? You just come across as unintelligent and uncouth every time you speak. I.e All brawn and no brains whatsoever.

Even if you cannot see it, all others can see in your ignorant and ethnically bellicose stance is the self-destructive foolishness that makes you unable to see the big picture. There is the real danger, in an age where many are putting their best hands forwards, that your region will be controlled by the most backward, most criminal, most desperate and most undeserving in the land. What do those sort deliver if not retrogression and stagnation? Yet your focus remains on watching other ethnic groups. Even your hatred of other ethnic groups should not blind you to what is very obvious yet you remain very sad and politically gauche. "Goodluck" to you.

This particular poster is a lunatic who suggested, on this forum at a time, that all Yoruba muslims must killed.

The amusing thing is how Yoruba suddenly became parasites. It makes me laugh. Just two years ago, it was northern parasites only.

Following this pattern, if these guys manage to get a country, say ND republic, I am sure a new set of parasites would emerge, may be the itsekiris or benins. They are simply uncivilized people that need to evolve.
