Barely two months after the sacked 788 doctors in Lagos public hospitals were recalled by the state government, the doctors Friday accused the government of insincerity over its agreement to fully implement the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale, CONMESS even as it demanded the payment of outstanding salaries for the months of April and May that the strike lingered.

They also alleged that state government withheld payment of April and May salaries as part of punitive measures against doctors that participated in the last industrial action.

Briefing journalists at the end of their Ordinary General Meeting, OGM, the doctors under the aegis of Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, Lagos University Teaching Hospital Branch, LASUTH-ARD, appealed to the state government to remove all punitive measures following the April/May crises in the health sector.

Speaking, LASUTH- ARD President, Dr. Babajide Saheed alleged that while 10 per cent of the April salaries were currently withheld, the May salary had not been paid at all.

Saheed noted that the state government made good of its threat of ‘no-work no-pay’ rule contrary to its promise to return to negotiation with the doctors following the withdrawal of the mass-sack order and suspension of seven weeks industrial action.

For the sake of those lives that they could not safe during the strike period,it will be most decent thing to forgo the salary.clearly,I support Fashola on this.infact,if these were in advanced nations, the humanrights and labour activist would go to court to compel the govt from paying them.besides, during the period, they had been sacked and not in the employ of Lagos state govt. undecided undecided

Of course, they should. What do you expect them to survive with during the period of strike? I think it's the government fault in the first place, that made them go on strike, and they should pay for what they started.

they were not in the employment of the state and the state was paying the locum doctors recruited during the strike period,so technically, the budget for their salary was being dispensed, besides, the state incurred losses while the strike lasted due to loss of patronage. While most of them were equally busy at their private practise,it is only the hungry ones among them that the salary loss would affect.I think next time, they would be wiser.

The doctors decided to "strike" from their work.

So LASG decided to "strike" from paying them.
