Good mornin peeps,
We have dis volkswagen transporter bus 91 model.d issue wit d bus is,we changed d fuel supply system cus of some earlier issues we had wit d bus,ever since den,d bus wil refuse to start immediately u turn d ignition every morning,u wil av to crank d engine lik 5 times before it starts.Auto geeks in d house,pls wat do u tink mite b d issue?thanks for ur anticipated contributions..

Just to be clear here...what exactly did you do to the fuel system? What did you change it to, and what was it to start with? What was wrong with the original fuel system?

What engine size is it?

Wat actualy happened was d auto gear system gt knocked,so twas repaired,afta d repair we discovered dat d bus was smokin excessively n d rate @ which fuel was consumed was on d high side,very high!,so d auto mech said sumtin was wrong wit d brain box,we went up n down in search of anoda brain box but cudnt gt anoda,so d bus was abandoned 4 lik 4months till one technician came n said he wud convert d injectin system to manual,so dat twil b workin independent frm d brain box,n he did a good job,cus d bus stopped smokin n fuel consumption bcame minimal,its a 2.5L engine,auto gear(sorry 4 d long story,just wanted to mak d pic clear to u).Thanks.....

He couldn't have done a good job...A good tech would solve the initial problem, not create more. I don't know how much your "mechanic" charged you, but all he's done is pretty much bent you over, and given you the rough end of a pineapple up your rectum.

A transmission issue lead to an engine being down graded from EFI to carburettor! Jesus Christ. That's a 2,5 5 cylinder engine, it will be well under fuelled if running a carb. That carb will not supply enough fuel to keep that engine happy. Just because it's using less fuel, doesn't mean all is well. Your pistons will be cooked, due to running too lean. the 2,5 I5 is very different to the old 1,9 that was fitted to the early Volkswagen Santana / Passat. It was NOT designed to run with a carb.

It was smoking initially, because it had a fuelling issue, not because it needed to be running on a carburettor.

Now you're having starting issues, and not surprising. The 2,461cc I5 needs cold start enrichment, you've lost that with your "conversion" to carb.

Unfortunately, I can't help you here. The best solution all round, would be to restore the original fuel injection and its ECU. It's automatic, and the tranny has its own control unit (TCU). The TCU computes gear changes by receiving signals from the engine ECU, so it knows what the revs and load are. It will not shift properly with the ECU missing. Your transmission TCU will be in limp mode right now, and it's only a matter of time before it stops altogether.

I'm an auto engineer, but my workshop isn't in Lagos, so I'll be of little help here.
