GEJ was technically correct about Nigeria being the 3rd most improved country in fighting corruption. Read the facts down here.

Comparing the Corruption Perception Indexes for:

2001 - http://archive.transparency.org/policy_research/surveys_indices/cpi/2001

and

2011 - http://cpi.transparency.org/cpi2011/results/

Bangladesh was the most improved country in fighting corruption with a jump of 2.3 (0.4 to 2.7) followed by Uruguay with a jump from 5.1 to 7 (1.9 improvement), and Nigeria was 3rd with a jump from 1.0 to 2.4 (1.4 improvement). Poland also had a 1.4 improvement (CPI jump from 4.1 to 5.5). President Jonathan said, “Nigeria is the second most improved country in the effort to curb corruption” and the country’s Ministry of Information explained that the claim was based, “the survey on global corruption perceptions for 2011 versus 2001 showed that the third best improvement in the world was in Nigeria, with its score improving by 1.5 points”.

If Transparency International CPIs are anything to go by as benchmarks for checking a country’s progress in fighting corruption, which they seem to be most of the time, then based on the above, the President was wrong to have said ”second most improved”, but the nation’s Ministry of Information was right to say Nigeria was the third most improved country in fighting corruption based on TI’s CPIs for 2011 and 2001 compared.

Kudos to GEJ and his media team for proving their crebility and shaming critics who re bent on pulling down his administration. Unfortunately and unknown to these self acclaimed oppositions in the veil of social crusaders, they wreck more havoc to d image of the nation before international communities by trying to heat up d polity unnecessarily and discredit the present administration. However, I also support criticisms but only when it is constructive.

Thank you. Nigerians relied on PM News to tell them if the President was right or wrong and PM News claimed to have had an email correspondence with Transparency International which I doubt. I will contact TI's Communications Officer, Sophie Brown, tomorrow to confirm and if they say there was no conversation of such, then PM should be ashamed of themselves. And I will let Nigerians know of that as much as I can.

OP, you are an i-diot. Why are you comparing 2001 to 2011? Nigeria improved tremendously due to the good work of Ribadu in 2003 to 2007. If Jonathan wants to claim that corruption has improved under him, then he should compare 2011 to 2007 -2010...

@OP, that you feel a need to run amok on these boards in spite of the faux pas already admitted by the Presidency is your prerogative.
While at it, though, please desist from feeding us more false statistics because it adds nothing to the debate.

For your information, Uruguay had a CPI score of 5.1 in 2001. By 2011, this had gone up to 7
Now spare us any further conjectures by doing the arithmetic!

Thanks for pointing out Uruguay. If you read what the Ministry of Information posted, you will see that they said Nigeria was 3rd most improved. They have taken down the link, but here's the cached version.

After Uruguay and Bangladesh, Nigeria was the 3rd most improved country in the efforts to fight corruption. The President was only wrong saying "second".

If your senile brain had read the explanation from the Ministry of Information, you would noticed that the President based his claim on those years - 2001 to 2011.

Here's the cached version of the link. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:V6Tm3oY-0_AJ:fmi.gov.ng/mr-presidents-statement-was-based-on-notorious-facts/+&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk

Right now, the contention is not about the years the president judged from, but the fact that Nigeria was not the 3rd most improved country in fighting corruption which statistics show that we were.

If you are at all aware Nigeria's CPI index has gone south since 2009, one has got to wonder how your conscience rests easy with the emboldened portion of your post?

The level of hate I have developed for ACN is at a breaking point. Not that I am not tolerable to opposition nor I mine sympathetic to PDP but as a Nigerian ithik they should learn to draw the line between politics and patriotism.. They are far lacking in the later hence what type of leadership will they offer if given the opportunity PDP enjoys today.. Opposition is built on ideologies not propaganda.. They don't mind bringing so much shame to the nation just to be in the news or run down the president and his party. Nigeria existed before political parties and as such should come to fore in issues of international discourse. Making a mockery of the country over a speech which some have akinned to an interpretational and misguided doesn't warrant rubbing our image and integrity in the mud before the international community that our president is a born liar. They went further asking for apology. Apology for what? To be used as a future political tool of reference? How foolishly they think... We need an opposition but certainly not a bigoted and a regional political agenda.

I'm not a GEJ supporter. I feel the truth has to be revealed. As someone said, he wrongly presented it to the Nigerian public, but he was right technically.
