Please is there any word like "fra" in ibo?
Am just trying to understand where the name "BIAFRA" came from

it sounds like 2 words
"BIA" meaning come in ibo
FRA a short of France
To me it sounds like BIAFRA means Come France?


During the civil war France supplied the ibo military with weapons. Obviously, the French wanted to get the oil wealth of Nigeria. Perhaps an unofficial agreement reached with Ojukwu and France?

England supplied the Nigerian military to continue their stronghold on the oil wealth.

the name Biafra comes from the bright of Biafra which was named by the Europeans during their early African expeditions. The Europeans, especially the Portuguese named almost every geographical feature in west africa. It has nothing to do with the Igbo language.

Either he was engaged in ego-driven policies and battles with Gowon (as pointed out by Achebe) or he had an unofficial agreement with France.

The British were so desperate to end the war andeven though they could not have used any foul means including food poisoning , would you accept a food offer from somebody who has sold arms to your enemey , Britain could have channeled it aids through the church or red cross

Supplies i meant weapons, ammunition etc
