Former Ghana international, Samuel Osei
Kuffour believes Nigeria’s Super Eagles face an
uphill task if they are to qualify for the knockout
stages of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in
South Africa.
Nigeria are in Group C alongside Ethiopia,
Burkina Faso and the reigning champions,
Zambia.
Kuffour who played in four editions of the Africa
Cup of Nations with Ghana’s Black Stars believes
the Eagles have their work cut out against the
three sides who make up the group.
"Zambia are the defending champions and
everybody is looking forward to seeing their
performance again. Watching them and Nigeria
will be quite fascinating,” Kuffour told
supersport shortly after the draws.
“The game between Nigeria and Burkina Faso
will be fascinating as well because these are two
teams from West Africa so it is a derby of sorts.
Ethiopia also overcame Sudan in qualifying after
losing 5-3 in the first leg.
“This is a very, very tough group,” Kuffour said.
Nigeria won the Nations Cup twice in 1980 and
1994 with Zambia being their victims in the final
in their second triumph in Tunisia.
Zambia’s solitary success in the competition
came in 2012 when they beat the Ivory Coast on
penalties in Libreville.
Ethiopia were African champions in 1962 while
Burkina Faso have never won the competition.
The Burkinabes had their best outing in 1998
when as hosts, they finished in 4th place .

I totally agree. What I fear for is for Nigeria and Zambia as they have a lot at stake, the Ethiopians especially have nothing to lose but big motivation from home to shine. This is the best mentality in football. They will get a very warm welcome even if they loose all games and get a very worm welcome if the get into any other stage!

Nigeria should not be complacent at all, as a Ghana fan, i will be glad if you Nigerians punish those overrated zambians for us. . .
