Operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) in the states and Abuja would now monitor the distribution of free instructional materials to public schools by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Minister of State for Education Nyesom Wike stated this during a visit to the Director General of SSS Ekpeyong Ita on Monday to hand over the list detailing how the books would be distributed in November.

He said the direct involvement of security agencies at the highest command level became necessary because of illegal actions of State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs).

In his response, Ita noted that there was every reason to sanitise the distribution channel to avoid a situation where saboteurs deny Nigerian children access to the textbooks.

He assured the minister that the service would work towards ensuring that all books distributed by the Federal Government get to the end users.
