But why would a French company own right to our competition. Does it mean that there are no African companies with same capability..??

Bros, help me ask o. It is a shame that CAF could not even give the primary broadcast rights to a big company in countries such as South Africa, Nigeria or even Egypt. Moreover, I thought that CAF, just like FIFA or UEFA would control the production of matches and sell the broadcast signals at a cheaper rate to African stations. 6 million Euros is a totally outrageous amount; I don't think African broadcast stations

collectively paid that amount to even broadcast the last World Cup.

They are asking NTA/AIT to cough out BILLIONS of Naira just to broadcast a football match. SMH.

konami001: Afcon shld always be free to Africans.... stop monetizing everything...

Where's your head at? Where do you think CAF gets the money to pay participating teams for appearing in the tournament, and where do you think participating teams get money to pay players' bonuses, air tickets, hotel bills, feeding, medical bills for players (one of our players ruptured his Achilles tendon in 2010 if you remember), etc?

Why is it that Nigerians think everything in this world is free? NOTHING IS FREE IN THIS WORLD. You cannot just sit at home and expect the broadcast company to buy every expensive broadcast equipment, ship it to location, set up over 35 high definition cameras in up to 6 venues to cover every game, fly in their crew and engineers, launch the satellite that even enables the broadcast into space and you say..

Afcon shld always be free to Africans

Are you that foolish you don't know what TV rights pay for?

i don't mind if the rights are pricey, CAF and african football need the money, my problem is that i believe (but i could be wrong) that this french company employs or is owned by Hayatou's son. I remember Egypt being pissed because the deal they had for their matches was better than the new deal they were locked into with CAF. the CAF deal was disgusting and ridiculous.
