Six students of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, have shunned their membership in their cult Groups which Five were members of , while the other was a member of Vikings.

According to the leader of the anti-cultism squad in the institution, Mr. Ade Abdulahi, the students were arrested a few days ago after which some incriminating materials such as mace, a symbol of authority, axes, Bible, vests, packets of candles, regalia, knife and charms,mace, a symbol of authority, axes, Bible, vests, packets of candles, regalia, knife and charms were recovered from one of the students’ room, who denied being a member of any secret cult.

The materials were prayed for by Venerable Osondu who is a cleric in the institution and later burnt.

From the Rector of the institution, Prof. Godwin Onu, the Polytechnic had in 2010 seen 50 students shuning their different cult groups. He also said that the institution would no longer tolerate cultism.

Onu declared the institution cult-free, saying his administration was committed to ensuring security and enabling environment for the students.

He assured the students, who shunned their membership of cultism, that nobody would molest, intimate and attack them for doing so.
Onu said the authority would not hesitate to expel any student involved in cultism.
