Although this is supposedly an Efik women, the entire jewellery (and clothing) is common to many eastern Nigerians, including the lower leg coils (called nja in Igbo). |

ezeagu:Oh wow! I've been looking for a thread like this. After watching so many bollywood movies,i was fascinated by how they still managed to preserve their culture inspite of Western colonization. I was prompted to search for ancient and native Igbo ornaments and jewerlly. To my amazement, most of these ornaments are now considered primitive and unholy. How did indians preserve their culture and why did we let go of ours? Igbo women only wear the anklets and jigida only during cultural performances/epic movies,as they are now considered fetish and mundane. I am sincerly hoping for a turn around when Igbo women can wear these beautiful ornaments daily just like Indian women. |
