The continent of Africa is a place of natural beauty, dramatic landscapes, rich history and diverse peoples. In addition to being the world's eighth most populous country, the West African nation of Nigeria alone is home to more than one-sixth of the continent's total population. Of Nigeria's numerous ethnic groups, the Yoruba and Igbo are two of the nation's largest groups. Although they share some similarities, they possess a number of distinct differences that make unique. |

Didn't know Yorubas are different from Igbos, thought we're the same homosapien-negroids. We learn new things everyday, so Yorubas are Araboids and Igbos are Bantuoids. The population difference is shocking 50milli for Yorubas and 27milli for Igbos. Overall, interesting article. 1 Like 1 Share |

I am Yoruba but frankly I dont trust that figure. It seems too large for my liking. Besides Ehow pays people to write articles and the more sensational they are, the better for traffic. Besides the article is wrong on the language issue. Yoruba is a Kwa language along with Ewe and some other west african languages. Language analysis firmly situates the language here in west africa. Though I dont discount the fact that they might have had an influx of Middle eastern/Sudanese people at some point. Nothing new though. |

Size This is very bogus. The author of this post is definitely biased and analytically slow. Igbos being 18% of Nigeria(150m) = 27m Yorubas being 20% of Nigeria(150m) = 30m Where did the extra 20m come from? Author will respond that there are other Yorubas in Benin, Americas and Europe. So, how about the Igbos in other central African countries, others scattered in Africa, Americas, Asia and Europe? There is a saying that majority of Igbos do not reside in their homeland. |

saintneo: Not only that 18% = 27 million and 20% equals 30 million, but who counted to give a number to the ethnic groups? Since they have removed ethnicity and religion from our census. I hate Nigeria!!! It's such a big shameful fraud. That is why i support the Yoruba agitation for a return to regionalism (although Igbos fear it is a ploy to confiscate their properties in Lagos)or at worst,a return to true fiscal federalism as the south south demands. This will help discourage this types of fraudulent. |
