Aregbesola Flags Off Distribution Of Free School Uniforms In Osun State by Nobody: 11:06am On Dec 29, 2012
No fewer than 750,000 pupils of
government primary and secondary
schools in Osun state would be
benefiting from the distribution of
unified school uniforms introduced
by the Osun State Government.
The state Governor, Ogbeni Rauf
Aregbesola disclosed this in Ede on
Friday while unveiling the unified
uniforms.
Aregbesola hinted that his
administration had spent about N2.6
billion on education in the past two
years, excluding salaries and
emolument of teachers in the state,
emphasizing that the distribution of
the unified school uniforms to the
pupils had vindicated his
administration on his promise for
efficient and better service delivery.
DailyPost gathered that every student
in the elementary, middle and high
schools would be given 2 pairs of
uniform each.
It was also gathered that the uniforms
were designed in three different types
according to the school structures,
ranging from elementary, middle and
high schools.
Aregbesola further explained that
about 800 million had been spent on
the school uniforms while over N1.8
billion was also spent on school
feeding programme tagged “O-Meal”
for pupils in primary 1- 4 and
payment of examination fees.
He however noted that despite Osun
state being ranked 34th on the
Federal government allocation table, it
remains the biggest financier on
education in the country.
Aregbesola affirmed that the first set
of uniforms would be given free of
charge to public pupils all over the
state, he hinted that those who might
need a replacement would buy at a
highly subsidized rate.
He assured residents of the state that
the distribution of the free uniforms
and Health Education textbooks is just
a tip of the iceberg compared with the
dividends of democracy his
administration has in store for Osun
people.

These are the sort of initiatives that vindicates the chairman for the Senate committee on education tasking other States to "drop their ego" and learn from Osun State. High quality education underpins the greatness of a society. It is very responsible for government to understand that they must assist parents more because serious poverty means that focus moves away from educating children.

And this is a state that gets no oil derivation allocation

God bless Rauf

If the investment climate gets even better, as it is bound to with his sheer determination to invest in infrastructure, he will be able to attract investments that will turn around the fortunes of the state through taxes

Good initiative.
My objection is on the issue of identification of student/pupil of a particular school from another,
Since all government owned schools in the state are entitled to a single type of uniform wear. A student involved in a punishable act outside his/her school premises can't be identified to be student of a particular school for the fact that they have the same uniform wear.

Smart uniform there though.

@Paul John

1. Identification of a school student apart from each other may not be a priority above the objective of the initiative. Besides it is well known that students who go out to perpertrate illegal acts put off their uniforms.....
2. The Uniform looks pretty smart.
3. I guess it also a system where the Uniform are produced and sown in the state serves to boost commerce

Is there free education in Osun state i.e. no tuition or other fees paid by students?
If yes, up to what level - primary, secondary, vocational, tertiary??

Yes! There is free education in the state of Osun from elementary to high school but not free for tertiary because Osun has five tertiary schools to cater for:
1. Ladoke Akintola university
2. Osun state university
3. Osun state polytechnics
4. Osun state college of technology
5. Osun state college of education

Were Osun state primary and secondary schools also tuition free during Oyinlola's administration?

Paul John:

Thanks.
So in short the additional thing Mr. Aregbesola has done is to give free uniforms and textbook for one subject:

He assured residents of the state that the distribution of the free uniforms and Health Education textbooks is just a tip of the iceberg compared with the dividends of democracy his administration has in store for Osun people.

And the ACN propangadists want us to pull off our trousers and pants and start screaming 7 hallelujahs, 7 hossanas and 21 allahuakbar!!!

Compared to the record of Bola Ige as governor of old Oyo state (that included present day Osun state). He gave textbooks in all subjects and did not have to raise a bond at over 14% nor receive mega federal allocations from currently high oil prices.
However to Ogbeni's credit he reduced the university fees by half from what he inherited from Oyinlola. But that is not enough based on the resources he has now and what was done by UPN governors 30 years ago!
