THE Okrika National Youth Movement said, on Friday, that personal issues rather than altruistic national agenda are behind the attacks launched by Mujaheed Dokubo-Asari against President Goodluck Jonathan and his government.

Dokubo-Asari had, at a press conference held in Abuja and separate media interviews, criticised President Jonathan for neglecting the South-South region, adding that a clique had hijacked the president. He said that the neglect of the South-South by Jonathan could cost him a second term in office in 2015.

He also claimed that the said clique controlling the president caused the feud between Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.  

But the Okrika Youth Movement in a statement signed by its president, Mr  Anthony Amieyefori, and secretary, Comrade Ibiyoma Lloyd, said that the former militant was fighting a selfish battle  and that he had decided to voice out having failed to get a renewal of the contract for pipeline security granted him and some former militants.

The group said: “Asari owns a pipeline security outfit to stem the rising wave of piracy on the Niger Delta waters but failed to work for the objectives for which the contract was given after millions of dollars have been paid to him.

“In spite of the shameful failure above, he and those in his category have mounted series of pressures on the presidency, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, as well as the petroleum minister for the renewal of such contracts. This is most unfortunate and goes to show that unlike Government Ekpomupolo (Tompolo) whose Oil Facility Surveillance Company is working in the Delta axis to rid the state of oil thieves, Asari’s supposed struggle is about self and self alone.”

The group also linked recent outbursts of the ex-militant to alleged attempts to get one of his favourites appointed as Niger Delta  minister, adding that the cold shoulders he had received from the presidency led to the recent outbursts.

According to the group, the declarations of Dokubo-Asari were not representative of the views of the people of the Niger Delta, whom the group said were firmly in support of President Jonathan and his policies.

The group further wrote: “We are convinced that another vital reason for Dokubo-Asari’s attack on President Jonathan is not unconnected with his consistent lobby on behalf of his friend, a presidential aide whom he (Asari) wants appointed as Niger Delta minister.

“Therefore, we implore all Nigerians to ignore Asari and regard his vituperations as products of a helpless lobbyist, who is acting the script of personal interests and those of his friends who have personalised every opportunity arising from their supposed struggle for the people of the Niger Delta.”

“In a nutshell, Asari’s comments do not reflect the opinion of the Niger Delta people as he speaks for himself and he is acting the orchestrated script of some unseen over-ambitious persons within the presidency.”

Somehow I suspected the rantings of Asari was due to some underlying selfish interest. I hope the HATERS and propagandists will also gather to feast on this thread the way they feasted on the threads where Asari's rants were reported. Or will they run for dear life as usual?

I am less concerned if he has personal issues with GEJ but all he said was the truth. He has refused to be in bondage so that Truth won't be in prison unlike some hungry self serving groups who only seek relevance to have their stomach filled while those whom they claim to represent continue to live in perpetual bondage!

This is an example of killing the messenger. I don't like Asari one bit. And I know the reason he is voicing out may be because his pay from FG has stopped. But that doesn't take away from what he has said so far! NOTHING!

GEJ better give the northern muslims their sharia republic,and Biafrans their independence afterwards he can remain a nigerian if he so wish.

Really, the presidency should consider his allegations and make amends. He has spoken the truth notwithstanding his personal beef.

The chicken is coming home to roost. Whoever think Asari, a criminal militant, is all for altruism is badly mistaken. Often times, personal issues are moulded and dissipated as national interest.

Let have a little run down.

When Obj fell out with Yar Adua, we saw his vindictiveness at play. Similar pettiness is being played out since he unceremoniously left the BOT chairmanship of PDP. Bakare and El Rufia are two other examples of such fellows. El Rufia self inflicted ignominy is well documented, while Bakare is a bundle of regrets and pains. Regrets that he disobeyed revelation by joining force with the tall one (buhari) who is not a messiah, and pains of loss inflicted in the same election. Again this clown goes around venting this frustration against the FG in the name of fighting for the masses, as an easy way to deal with his personal failure.

Now, we are having an insight into the reason for the frustration of Asari Dokubo. Personally, he expects more from his kinsman (GEJ), but as usually, not every fantasy can be met by the presidency, hence the tirade.

Well, soon those who fail exams, or have marital or conjugal problems, etc will take to the air and media to criticize FG in the name of the masses. indeed this is big and still growing industry.

Let's not get me wrong, there are many things the FG could have done differently and better, but my point is let's those with personal issues deal with their problems, rather than pretend that they are fighting for the common man. Since when did Asari, Obj, El Rufia and Bakare started fighting for common man? Arrant nonsense!

They have refused to comment on what he said but simply chose to criticize his person.May be they are right but does that refute the message

It is rather unfortunate that Okirika outfit decided to publicly and politically indict Dokubo-Asari on known political fad that had reduced the people of so-called Niger Delta and South-south into self-denial artists, deceitful neighbors and outright panhandlers. It is funny to see people fight, kill themselves and finally settle for cheap handout over what is presumed to be under their feet. Americans say one can not fix stupidity.

i am in south east and i am a member of south east online forum.GEJ is still our man.

Asari we know,Ijaw youth council we know,Arewa youth forum we also know,who come be okirika youth movement?When were they registered and what is their modus operandi?Any gang of nonentities will just come together now and form one rubbish organization and movement and start dambling into National matters like juveniles abi?Reading through their address u found out that they dont even have any reasonable thing to say.More like hirelings,paid to disparage and distort d facts Asari raised.Asari is a criminal and corrupt man,but he made alot of sense in his interviews.This mumu okirika youth that doesnt even have a say in their supposed state are now claiming to speak for Niger Delta youths.Let them go and put their house in order first bfore commenting on National issues.
