pls help solve the following: 1. find the equation of the curve with gradient 2x+3 and which pass through the point (2,6) 2. suppose y varies as the sum of two quantities, one of which varies directly as x and the other inversely with x. when x =2, y = 7. find the relationship between x and y |
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by profmathsland(m): 3:50am On Sep 04, 2017 |
samola01: Are you sure the second question is comprehensively asked extremely well?If yes then the repeated use of the variable x is a suspect because there will be two different constants unless you want to expect the person to use the same constant for the variable x twice or otherwise. The question is a partial or part variation question though and it has to be properly looked into very well.If the question is correct then the two forms will be y=kx and y=k/x of which if you add both of them together you will have y=kx+k/x if that's what you expect though and substituting the values of x and y into that equation it will result to y=(14x^2+14)/5x.But if we solve it with two different constants as against the same constants then it will be a different ball game. For the first question, the gradient is already the derivative of x which implies that it will be integrated with respect to x and it will be y=x^2+3x+c.On substituting this to x=2 and y=6 the value of c will be gotten as -4 which will be inputed into the function gotten so that at the end of the day the equation of the curve will be y=x^2+3x-4. 1 Like 1 Share |

Become A Human Calculator, Solve Calculations Without Calculators Learn how to solve calculations without the use of your calculator. It is no longer a news that the trends of exams are changing, the use of calculators has been scrambled from many examination platform both at secondary and tertiary levels and so it is expedient to know how to solve very fast without the use of a calculator. Below are some few examples of what the main package contains: Multiplication by 11 To multiply 52 and 11, imagine there is a space between 52 52*11= 5_2 (Put an imaginary space in between) Now, lets fill the space; Just add 5 and 2 and put the result in the imaginary space So, 52 * 11 =572 (which is your answer) Isn't it great? Let’s try some more examples: 1) 35 * 11 = 3 (3+5) 5 = 385 2) 81 * 11 = 8 (8+1) 1 = 891 3) 72 * 11 = 7 (7+2) 2 = 792 etc.. With just a little bit of practice you can easily perform these simple mental maths tricks in the blink of an eye. Multiply any large number by 12 mentally in seconds To multiply any number by 12 just double last digit and thereafter double each digit and add it to the next and right each result: I know it sounds boring and senseless, just check the examples below to get it clearly; For example 21314 * 12 = 255768 Let’s break it into simple steps: Step 1: 021314 * 12 = _____8 (Double of Last Digit 4= 8 ) Step 2: 021314 * 12 = ____68 (Now Double 1= 2, and add it to 4, 2+4=6) Step 3: 021314 * 12= ___768 (Now Double 3=6, and add it to 1, 6+1=7) Step 4: 021314 * 12= __5768 (Now Double 1=2, and add it to 3, 2+3=5) Step 5: 021314 * 12= _55768 (Now Double 2=4, and add it to 1, 4+1=5) Step 6: 021314 * 12= 255768 (Now Double 0=0, and add it to 2, 0+2=2) So your final answer of 21314 * 12 = 255768 Is 456138 divisible by 9? Now, it only takes 2 seconds for you to determine the answer. But if you go by the traditional way then it will take you 10 seconds. So you can see the difference. Those 8 extra seconds you win, you can spend on other question. Isn't it? No let see the solution (Answer) To test whether a certain large number is divisible by 9 or not, 'just add all the digits of the number and if the end result is divisible by 9, then you can say that the entire large number will be divisible by 9 too'. 4+5+6+1+3+8=27 Now since 27 is divisible by 9 so 456138 will be divisible by 9 too. Calculating Square of numbers quickly... Squaring numbers is quit easy check the examples below: Lets calculate the square of 54 So (54)^2 = 5^2 +4 -- 4^2 = 25 +4 ----16 =29-------16= 2916 Similarly (55)^2 = 5^2 +5 --5^2=25+5------25=30---------25= 3025 Similarly (56)^2 = 5^2 + 6--6^2=25+6------36= 31--------36= 3136 etc.. Similarly try out squares of 57, 58 etc.. Some of this might not make full sense to you for now, but I can assure that with the full Amazing mathematics Tricks E-book would give you all the explanations you need in a simple and clear way, try it out following the link below to get on Okada online book store: Get the complete PDF for just #300 at http://okadabooks.com/book/about/amazing_mathematics_tricks/12739 You stand the chance to learn how to solve the following without the use of calculators: > Addition Tricks > Subtraction Tricks > Multiplication Tricks > Squaring of Numbers > Square roots of Numbers, as well as > cube roots of numbers and lot more. http://okadabooks.com/book/about/amazing_mathematics_tricks/12739 Okada books permits Purchases using airtime, Thanks best regards. 1 Share

Pls guys help me solve this calculation wit explanations. Alhaji bello has 36months car loan of #50,000 @ 12% interest rate per annum. What is the MONTHLY loan repayment? |
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by naturalwaves: 10:46am On Sep 12, 2017 |
Aybalance:You are welcome. You understand the solution well, right? |
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by naturalwaves: 10:56am On Sep 12, 2017 |
afo7219:There are different ways to solve this but let us take a simple approach. Since the interest rate is given per annum, you have to use years to solve. 36 months is 3 years. Number of years = 3 years. Let us now calculate his interest I= PRT I= 50000* 12/100 * 3 I= 18000 The interest is 18,000 naira. So, the amount he is supposed to pay for the whole 36 months will be 50,000+ 18,000 = 68,000 naira. This means that he is going to pay 68k back for the 50k he collected. Since he is going to pay 68000 naira for 36 months, he will pay 68,000/36 every month and that will be #1,888. 89k. Every month, he will pay #1,888.89k |

naturalwaves: Nah I don't think so (although I picked the wrong example), I am pretty sure it is incorrect. Try any number greater than -2/3 but less than 4/3 (for example 1 which is greater than -2/3)... Your solution crumbles ( it fails to satisfy the quadratic). Or indeed try out other values outside your solution set, say -5 (infact any number less than -2/3) you see that it satisfies the quadratic solution which again invalidates your solution. The true solution to that your quadratic equation is x<-2/3 and x>4/3. Cheers! |

naturalwaves:100% clear.Ar u a student,aspirant or ??.Sorry 4 the questions |
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by naturalwaves: 12:07am On Sep 15, 2017 |
masperano:Bro, you are still wrong, X > -2/3, x >4/3 is the correct set. This means that -2/3 < X > 4/3. If you look at this, it looks disjoint because we could then just say that X > 4/3 since it is greater than -2/3 as well. In such cases, rather than write X> -2/3 or X > 4/3 which is the same as -2/3 < X > 4/3, the proper way of writing it when such situation occurs is -2/3 < X < 0, X> 4/3.The only mistake I made was not to split it with the "0" interval. Therefore correct answer is -2/3 < X <0, X> 4/3 Quick check.: -2/3 is approximately -0.667 which is approximately -0.7. The set of values that will satisfy my answers for part 1 are all numbers that are greater than this(-0.7) but less than 0. Examples of such are; -0.5,-0.4,-0.3,-0.2,-0.1 etc. You can try as much as you want. Note: All trials must be checked with the initially given inequation and not the quadratics you are trying it out with. I even used online tools and inequality solvers online to crossycheck and this was what they showed.
