If the equations are really 3x+y=8 and x^2+x-y=6 then none of the options provided is correct!

I have provided the two values of y in my solutions and they are y=1.27 and y=26.73

If it was the right question that I solved, then I'm sure my solutions are right.

Cheers!

thank u

If the maximum value of y = 1+ hx -3x^2 is 13, find h
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Nobody: 4:05am On Oct 15, 2017
EngrBello:
If the maximum value of y = 1+ hx -3x^2 is 13, find h

the maximum value occurs when the derivative (dy/dx=0) hence differentiating we have

h-6x=0; => x=h/6. so substitute x into the first equation, we get ymax=1+h(h/6)-3(h/6)^2= 1+(h)^2/6-(h)^2/12=1+(h)^2/12;

=> ymax=1+(h)^2/12; but we were told from the question that ymax=13; 13=1+h^2/12=> 12=h^2/12.

Hence h^2=144, which implies h =+12 or -12.

If y = 3cos4x , dy/dx equals

let u=4x and hence y=3cosu
du/dx=4 and dy/du=-3sinu=-3sin4x
but dy/dx=dy/du * du/dx
dy/dx=4 * (-3sin4x)
dy/dx = -12sin4x

It's indirect proportion so the right answer is (15 x 7)/10 =10. 5days = 10days, 12 hours

Just a tip to answering maths and physics questions:

There are some questions that we may not really be able to solve, but we would be able to predict the answers. This question is one of them.

Without solving, one would automatically know the answer to the question above would be greater than 7days.

Because, If a bag can feed 15 students for 7days,
Then that same bag would logically feed a 'lesser number of 10 students' for a period of more than 7days.

This would be highly useful to jambites.
It's one of the tips to scoring high in UTME smiley

There still no valid answer to the simultaneous equations below without manipulation...

X + Y = 5
X^X + Y^Y = 31

please, anybody with the right solution should help a brother.

He must have started with 52 cards;

Let the no of cards he started with be x
x- 1/4x +6 = x-7
4x-x+24= 4x-28
x=24+28
x=52
