NEMA said there was no targeted church killing in Chibok.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has denied a report claiming that 15 worshippers were killed in an outskirts of Chibok Local government Council of Borno State on Sunday.

Though some of the reports claimed a source from NEMA provided the information, the agency, in a statement by its spokesperson, Yushau Shuaib, said it contacted the officer involved who denied making such statement.

The agency said it also assigned a special team to investigate and verify the allegation which was later found to be unsubstantiated and untrue.

Though NEMA refuted the church attack, it said its special team found that two people were killed by unidentified gunmen around the area on Sunday.

It said their bodies had been deposited in a hospital. The victims were a security man and a bystander.

NEMA said it could not classify the victims as Muslims or Christians because most of the attacks in that North-East axis are non-discriminatory between religion, tribe or section of the victims.

“This could be deduced from the calibre of personalities including retired military generals, traditional rulers, politicians, public officers, businesspeople, security personnel, traders, students among other that were victims of such attacks,” the agency said.

NEMA said it would never release figures of casualty in whatever form without concrete evidence and certification from relevant authorities including the medical personnel and security agencies.

“The tradition of collaboration with stakeholder in information management during outbreaks of disaster in any part of the country is to eradicate erroneous impressions and misinformation as well as guard against unnecessary reprisal attacks from such speculations,” the agency said.

Meanwhile, the emergency agency said it has provided relief materials to the victims of recent communal clash between Fulani and Gwari in Gwagwalada area of Abuja over encroachment on farmlands.

“Two truckloads of relief materials that include beddings, food items, toiletries, medicaments and tents have been distributed to the victims who are currently squatting in a temporary camp on the Permanent Campus of the University of Abuja,” the agency said.

What do people gain in relieving others of a life that God gave them. Anyway, it is those of us over here that weep; if they are truly saved, these men have only hastened their answer to "the call to glory"

And if there is any new year resolution to make, I advice it will be to LIVE READY because you don't know the hour you will answer the divine call. Remember it is appointed unto men to die and after death JUDGMENT.

I don't know why tax payers money should be spent on communities that decided to kill themselfs and burn there properties because of some piece of farm land. These NEMA people are begining to misuse the money allocated to them.

Good that NEMA is refuting the fabricated/exaggerated report. In fact, reports of casualty figures of atrocities in the NE are most often exaggerated falsehood. Armed robberies, murders, banditry are all attributed to bh as if these crimes did not exist before bh. Casualty figures are mischievously hiked and the victims' religious identity altered - in Chibok we now know that it was 2 people that were killed, but the exaggerated initial report said 15 christians including the pastor were killed in a church attaack on xmas eve. And the talkative CAN leader went on air spewing verbiage as usual- maybe these false reports are even cooked up by them because they cant be trusted on anything. God save naija

i agree with you, i think the source of this story should be investigated and the people who are involved prosecuted. At a time we all are working towards peace anybody who can churn out such false stories to mislead the people is as bad as the boko haram that we are against in the first place.

Even when the worshipers and the residents of the area confirmed the killing?
NEMA is working for the government and they want u to believe what their report says not from any other source. If it were possible NAME would have deny that such incident never took place there. the truth is that government is tired and confused on how to handle the insecurity in that part of the country. the killing took place both the pastor and 15 worshipers were killed, Christian Association of Nigeria has their own media-outfit that gets firsthand information on any incident happening among the member churches nationwide. NAMA has government mandate in telling lies to the Nigerian public on the actual casualties involve voilents
