Four Boko Haram kingpins held for major bombings

Four key Boko Haram leaders are in custody for the bombings of the United Nations (UN) House, the Police Headqurters and St.Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla, Niger State.

One of the suspects, Mamman Nur, is still wanted in connection with the attack on the UN House. Two other suspected Boko Haram leaders (Bashir Madalla and Habeeb Umar Bama) died in the clash with the Joint Task Force (JTF).

According to records obtained from the State Security Service (SSS), those in custody are: Ali Sanda Umar Konduga( a.k.a Usman Al-Zawahiri), who was jailed for three years in December 2011; Ismail Kwaljima(a.ka. Abu Summaya); Babagana Mali (a.k.a Bulama); and Kabiru Sokoto.

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said “the people who bombed the police headquarters, the United Nations building and the St. Theresa Church in Madalla have been arrested”.

The list of those in custody is outside the 19 Boko Haram leaders recently declared wanted by the JTF with N290million ransom placed on them.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “It is true that we have some of these key commanders of Boko Haram in our custody, with many of their foot soldiers. At the appropriate time, a full list will be made known to Nigerians.

“The challenge we have with terrorism is that investigation is ongoing, in view of the link between Boko Haram and Al-Qaeda in the Maghreb . Their network is such that security agencies (especially the SSS, which has recorded many breakthroughs) keeps on stumbling on clues every day.

“We are also looking for a number of suspects in connection with the UN House and Police Headquarters bombings. That is why most of those arrested have not been arraigned in court.

“The disclosures made by the President at the church service on New Year’s Day had to do with security reports at his disposal on the arrest of key co-ordinators of Boko Haram. Some of these leaders managed bases and strategic cells of the sect.”

Another source, who pleaded not to be named because of “the sensitivity of the matter,” said: “I know that the police are keeping some leaders of Boko Haram, but they are yet to release the list.

“The recent attack of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit in Abuja was traced to the detention of some Boko Haram leaders in the place. The police investigating team might refer to this when it completes its probe.”

But the source claimed that the list of arrests made so far is outside the 19 leaders declared wanted by the JTF with N290million ransom.

Those affected are five members of the Shurra Committee of the sect, including, Imam Abubakar Shekau (N50million); Habibu Yusuf (a.k.a Asalafi) N25million; Khalid Albarnawai (N25million); Momodu Bama (N25 million); and Mohammed Zangina (N25million).

The Boko Haram Commanders are: Abu Saad (N10million); Abba Kaka (N10million); Abdulmalik Bama (N10million), Umar Fulata(N10million); Alhaji Mustapha (Massa) Ibrahim (N10million); Abubakar Suleiman-Habu (a.k.a Khalid) N10million; Hassan Jazair N10million; Ali Jalingo (N10million); Alhaji Musa Modu (N10million); Bashir Aketa (N10million); Abba Goroma(N10million); Ibrahim Bashir (N10million); Abubakar Zakariya (N10million); and Tukur Ahmed Mohammed (N10million).

Let us celebrate some success no matter how minute, it should count as a step in some direction. Having said that, information should be extracted from those suspects fairly quickly so that this menace can be arrested once and for all times and the brains behind them dealt with immediately, if that is really feasible.

As far as I am concern, the fight against terror is succeding we must give a kodus to our security agencies for keeping them at bay.We pray they will do more this year and quash all the enemies of Nigeria.
Re: Four Boko Haram Kingpins Held For Major Bombing by Godjone(m): 11:11am On Jan 02, 2013
am tired of hearing always that boko commanders are in costody. Why not inuagurate a public forum and open a platform 4 all Nigerians to have a say on what these animals shud be used for. It seems the authority are at lost on what to do. Meanwhile, our security agency shud dig more fact from those arrested so as to gather more inteligence on how to apprehend the remaining members. Finaly, all nigerians in their capacity as citizens must assist the authorities with usefull information so as to put to an end this madness. Enough is enough!
