Is Crescent Moon Symbol Of Islam? by tbaba1234: 6:39pm On Jan 09, 2013 |
I got a mail asking me this Question. I decided to share the answer. Answer : NO The crescent moon was the symbol of the last Islamic dynasty, The Ottomans. The Turk adopted the symbol when they conquered constantinople in 1453. It has no relevance in Islam. The early muslims and the dynasties before the ottomans did not have any symbols. The muslim armies and caravan flew flew simple solid-colored flags (generally black, green, or white) with no writing on it for identification purposes. The Ottomans ruled for about 600 years so those symbols became a part of muslim identity. But it has no basis in Islam. “Among His Signs are the Night and the Day and the Sun and Moon. Prostrate (adore) not to the Sun and the Moon but prostrate to God, Who created them, if it is Him ye wish to serve.” (Qur’an, 41: 37) “Seest thou not that God merges Night into Day and He merges Day into Night; that he has subjected the sun and the moon (to His Law), each running its course for a term appointed: and that God is well acquainted with all that ye do?” (Qur’an, 31:29) And Allah knows best... 5 Likes |
