> The recent outcry following the ra'pe to death of an Indian woman has been met with surprising apathy by Nigerians online. This should be  a wake up call to females in Nigeria and hopefully the rest of African women would follow.
In theUS , a videotape of a raped' high school girl was released on the web and this was enough to start an investigation as well as a huge public outcry. Some of the clips were just
nauseating and very hard to listen to.
In 2012, an Abia State University student was raped' and the video was released to the web. Where does the investigation stand today?
There have been callous statements against victims of rape citing their dressing or claiming that they consented.
> However, we must not fail to ask if the act itself by the men is right. Are we as a society saying that it is okay for a man to become an animal? What
example are we teaching our future generations of men?

It is difficult for a rape' victim to come forward and worse when she is subject to endless ridicule by the champions of justice that should ensure appropriate application of the law. What bills have been passed in recent times to address the plight of women? Even if there is only one woman in the Nigerian Congress, are the men not husbands, sons, brothers, fathers and grandfathers of women?

It appears to all be in line with our culture of self above others until the evil befalls you.

The Nollywood connection
I am taking a leave of Nollywood films/movies and I hope other women would find the courage to do so Nollywood
serves as a better champion for societal improvement. Rape' is hardly ever punished in these movies but rewarded with the girl falling in love with her rapist
or the girl being cured of some ailment. The subliminal message being passed here is that it is okay to rape' a woman.

> It is never okay to commit any crime against another person. We must rise above the animalistic culture which is being beamed to the whole world via our movies because we can.

Back to policy makers and you
> Can we therefore as women and lovers of women and girls stand together to address this ill of our society to
give some dignity to ourselves?
> Will we ever get an update about the victim whose ugly incident became circulated on You tube
video?
> Can we educate each other on how to be safe from dangerous situations?
> Are our NGOs equipped to handle a case to a realistic and satisfactory conclusion?
> Or do we just keep watching as our world continues to decay?

Ra-pe is a male sport all over the world!
Even in civilized countries.
Speaking about it is not the solution.
Men who commit ra-pe should be castrated! BALLS AND ALL!
Simple! kiss

R.ape is a crime which has been scrupulous enshrined in our criminal code with meted out punishments for anyone who commits the act or omission(section 2, criminal code). The major issue is the inability of the rape victims to speak out. Sometimes they conceal it for fear of public stigma/opprobrium. How can justice been done? You cannot change what you tolerate.
