THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Wednesday arrested the Imo State Commissioner of Finance, Mr. Okafor Chike John and the Accountant General of the state, Eche Ezenna George over allegations fraud and sundry financial misconduct.

The Guardian learnt that they are being grilled by interrogators at the Abuja office of the commission.

Although EFCC’s Head of Media, Wilson Uwujaren was not available to confirm their arrest, an impeccable source within the commission said the duo were arrested in connection with a N47 billion loan transaction from Zenith Bank allegedly taken by the state government.

He said the immunity clause provided by Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution had made it impossible for EFCC to progress with any case against the state Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha.

The commission will therefore focus on the two officials now in its net.

Rochas is the only governor to invite EFCC to establish a permanent office in the state that investigates while he's serving instead of coming after his tenure to probe.
