It is not uncommon for a liar to scream bloody murder just to cover his tracks if he knows that his lies are about to be unearthed. The mode and style of the liar’s lies and the smooth method in which the lies are dolled out will catch the unsuspecting victim off-balance. If you want to catch a liar, ask him the same question twice. But some liars have evolved to a very fine-tuned state of lying to the extent that they can give an exact same answer to a particular question (either framed or re-framed) years after asking them the initial question. On the other hand, some people are just not refined in the art of lying and you can easily see through their lies when they are in their active lying mode.

Although, my country is sufficiently blessed with armies of liars, it is also richly endowed with armadas of lie catchers. For advanced liars like ”The Evil Genius” himself and the ”Ota farmer”, it is pretty easy to lie, defend their lies and get away with it. But for rookie liars like our Fresh Air President…?

”NO VACANCY IN ASO ROCK IN 2015” and ”ONE GOOD TURN DESERVES ANOTHER” are huge captions I stumbled upon in an high – brow area of Abuja recently. My first impression was ”YES!” the 2015 presidential race has finally began for Mr. Fresh Air in 2013. A Yoruba proverb said ”iwa omo ni o mu omo je okigbe” (its only a child’s behavior that will lead him into having incisions all over his body). You can never see a banker with bullet-proof juju incisions on his body. Its only a man that makes his living through guns that will have such. If a man is on the right part, he will not need to be scared of his shadows even in the most darkest of alleys.

The sight of those two campaign posters are a sight for sore eyes – those posters have been long expected on the streets of our major cities. Most Nigerians are already restless about the absence of those posters in public places since the middle of last year. In fact, we had already started anticipating the appearances of those posters right after the ”One Year in Office” presidential celebration amidst huge imaginary improvements in the country’s economic infrastructures and mirage wars that has been won against corruption last year. Now that the posters finally made their appearances in the public and we had already started gearing up efforts on how to make sure that our dearest president enjoys a gallant ride back into Aso Rock come 2015 only to be disappointed by a weak statement released by the presidency debunking their involvement in the contents of the posters.

Even if the presidency has nothing to do with the printing of the posters, it should not deny the fact that it is aware that those posters will be spread around – it is only an obedient child that will carry out such illustrious duty on behalf of his father without the father’s involvement but not without notifying the father of his intended actions and receiving express permission before going about it.

The manner and method with which the ”no poster involvement presidential claim” was discussed by the country’s media giants in the last few days will give one the impression that the presidency through its spokesperson had virtually screamed bloody murder in its attempt to make us see that it is innocent. But the high level of the presidential screams will get one curiously thinking that there must be something else to their no involvement claim.

We are not a nation of fools. Our leaders have to see this fact and put an end to all their childish shenanigans before matters get out of hands. If we are to endure two more years of their collective nonsense without strife, they should let sleeping dogs lie. And if they think we are a nation of fools, let them put up campaign camps and posters in their bid to seek for reelections back into office. For now, we shouldn’t dwell on that nightmarish speculations.

We have come far in Nigeria not to know our left from our right – not to know when the dirtiest and most trickiest forms of politics are been played out right in front of our eyes. Many of us see and encounter it on a daily basis, many of us ignore it and move on with our business, some of us challenges it. And until a new sun rise over this murky sky enveloping our great fatherland, those of us that has found the courage to challenge the evils of our time shall not desist from doing so.
