Photoshop ::: Making Water Drop In Photos ::: by charlisco(m): 7:18pm On Apr 28, 2006 |
Step 1a Open an image in Photoshop that you wish to apply the effect. I used the photo Image of snazzdawn, vote for her as the hottest female in Nairaland Step 1b Add a new layer Layer > New > Layer (ctr+shift+N) then click on ok Step 1c Make a circular selection with the Elliptical Marquee Tool (M) the circle doesn't have to be a perfect circle, as long as it looks like one. small circle give more of the effect Now press the letter D on your keyboard to make the foreground color black and the background color white. ie white color up, black colour down With the selection still active, select the Gradient Tool and select a linear gradient (B) in the options bar at the top. If everything is ok, then we should see a preview of the gradient in the options bar Make sure that it goes from black (left) to white (right). If that's not the case then make sure that the option reverse is not selected (C). If you don't see a black & white gradient, then double click on the gradient in the options bar (A) and select the gradient from the list and click OK. We are now going to draw a gradient from left to right. We start at the red dot and pull the gradient all the way to the green dot. After you're done, deselect the selection by pressing Ctrl + D on your keyboard or by selecting in the menu Select > Deselect. Add transparency Set the blending mode of the layer in the layers palette to Overlay. Add a Layer Style Layer > Layer Style > Drop Shadow Use the following setting

STYLES: Drop Shadow: check STRUCTURE Blend Mode: Multiply Opacity: 50 Angle: 158 and Use global: uncheck Distance: 7px, Spread: 0% Size: 5px QUALITY Contour: Linear Anti-Aliased: uncheck Noise: 0 Layer knocks out Drop Shadow: check || || || || || || || || || || || || || || || || STYLES: Inner Shadow: check STRUCTURE Blend Mode: Multiply Opacity: 75 Angle: -29 and Use global: check Distance: 5px, Spread: 0% Size: 5px QUALITY Contour: Linear Anti-Aliased: uncheck Noise: 0

Then click ok The result of this later style should look like this: Adding a highlight Go to layer > merge down (ctrl + E) Press de letter X on your keyboard to switch the fore- and background; the foreground color is now white. Now select a hard brush (key B) with a size of 6 pixels (the size depends on size of the water drop) and click once in the upper left corner of our water drop. Final Image |

Charlisco, never feel you aren't appreciated. Sometimes I lift your tutorials and apply them in Fireworks. It's a bit tough but that's because Fireworks is vector-based. I'll get Photoshop today and start doing the real work. Have you done any work on morphing -- eg a human and a gorilla? |
