At least seven South Sudanese have been freed from their Arab abductors after the resumption of an operation to rescue them, the BBC has learnt.

The seven have been taken to a transit camp in the South Darfur capital, Nyala, the head of the operation says.

Ahmed Mufti said the latest operation would seek to free 1,200 people, with the first group going home next month.

Some 8,000 people are thought to remain in slavery after being captured during Sudan's north-south conflict.

The conflict ended in 2005 but the programme to return the slaves had ended in a row over money.

Where are those "Auxiliary Arabs" especially our M'uslim brothers? If this story was about slavery in the Western world, some people will be foaming from the mouth. What they forget is that the Arabs enslaved 10 to 14 million Africans and are still doing it today. That they even stopped much of the slavery in the first place was because they were compelled by outside military intervention to end slavery. There was no similar Arab abolition movement.

Lets bear this in mind when next some knuckle-head living in the West insists that we must support Arab causes.

Was it not in the 70s that Mauritania abolished slavery? During all that time,African member nations of the OAU did absolutely nothing.Neither have they bothered to complain about Sudan. What's the point of an African organisation if they can't act against a member state that condones slavery?

They will probably tell you it is the US and Israel that forced Arabs in Sudan to take Africans as slaves.

Their faith is essentially an Arab imperialist movement cloaked in religious garb. Which kind of faith claims that God speaks in one particular language and you must pray to him in that language; in this case Arabic, take up Arabic names, visit the Arab world in pilgrimage, dress your women like Arab women, face Arabia while praying,e.t.c

In the 70s,they managed to take measures against Israel,I believe they cut diplomatic relations, while worse things were happening in the African continent.

In a sense, that was symptomatic of the attitude you get here.If Israel bombs Palestinians, people will be foaming in the mouth, when Arabs take Africans as slaves, you get silence.

Damn this is messed up, I however doubt it has anything to do with religion., and a lot to do with hatred of a people (racism)

People let's not forget that our very own christianity was used to enslave us at a time. does that mean that christianity condones slavery? no, it means that the white man was using a superior means to dehumanise us.

Young women tricked into coming to England, often by boyfriends, are being sold off in auctions at airport coffee shops as soon as they arrive.

They are among the thousands of women brought into the UK to be sex slaves, usually with no idea of their fate.

The trade was one of the findings of a BBC News website investigation into slavery in 21st Century England.

please do tell , was the above link on the page under your radar, or do you all have tunnel vision?  tongue ( or , to paraquote nwando - y'all won't see that one)

As the UK marks 200 years since the Parliamentary Act to abolish the slave trade, slavery goes on in another form.

When Marie, a young girl from Cameroon, turned up in Manchester at the end of 2004 she was just one of hundreds of asylum seeking children alone in the city looking for help.

Her story was harrowing. Having been trafficked to France and forced into prostitution by her aunt, she fled to Britain with the help of a man who said he would help her escape.

Suffering from a range of physical and mental health problems, probably as a result of the abuse she endured, Marie was admitted to hospital.

Within two months she was dead. A post-mortem examination revealed natural causes. She was 16.

Sadly, Marie's case is thought to be just the tip of the iceberg and part of a growing industry which contributes to the 5,000 child sex slaves recently estimated to be working in the UK by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

when did Jesus become an arab?
Re: Slaves In Sudan by Nobody: 10:34am On Mar 06, 2008
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_of_Jesus

While the early descriptions of hair, skin and eye color clearly have implications for defining Jesus' "race," they are not explicit in their desire to ascribe a racial identity to him in the modern sense. By the 19th century, however, theological arguments were increasingly replaced by more secular biological ones, as attempts were made to envisage Jesus in the context of the people and culture of the Middle East. While some writers stressed his Jewishness, the growth of anti-Semitic racial theory led others, such as Emile Burnouf and Houston Stewart Chamberlain, to argue that he was racially an "Aryan." This led to portrayals of Jesus as a blond Nordic individual, a concept that was taken up by the Nazi ideologue Alfred Rosenberg and by Hitler. Hitler argued that Jesus was of Celtic ancestry, on the grounds that "Galilee was a colony where the Romans had probably installed Gallic legionaries, and it's certain that Jesus was not a Jew."[11]

In more recent times the fact that the Middle East was a meeting point of cultures and races has led to suggestions that Jesus may have been African or Arabian. The ancient Near East was a cultural crossroad, and the only land route out of Africa, where that continent physically joins the Eurasian landmass. The Roman province of Judea, where Jesus lived, had many different waves of immigrants pass through at various points in and before recorded history, with the last major group being the Arab conquest in the 7th century. As such, it is not inconceivable that Jesus could have had traces of Arab, Aramean, Berber, Roman, Greek, Black African, Persian or Indian ancestry. The aggressive policy of territorial expansion and forced conversion to Judaism practiced by John Hyrcanus a century before Jesus' birth may also have affected the ethnic make-up of the local Jewish populations.

It is most commonly argued that Jesus was probably of Middle Eastern descent because of the geographic location of the events described in the Gospels, and, among some modern Christian scholars, the genealogy ascribed to him. For this reason, he has been portrayed as an olive-skinned individual typical of the Levant region. A team of forensic scientists recently attempted to recreate what Jesus may have looked like based on human remains from the area where and time period when Jesus is believed to have existed. However, this image does not reveal any specific details about what Jesus looked like; it is intended only to give a view of the typical person living in Jesus' time and place.[12] In the December 2002 edition of Popular Mechanics, Jesus was shown as looking like a typical Galilean Semite. Among the points made was that the Bible records that Jesus' disciple, Judas had to point him out to those arresting him. The implied argument being that if Jesus' physical appearance differed that markedly from his disciples, then he would have been relatively easy to identify.[1]

More recently the claim that Jesus was black has gained some currency, chiefly among African American religious movements, either as a serious historical hypothesis or as a symbolic statement of black pride. Groups such as Black Hebrew Israelites claim that black people are descended from Israelites and that therefore Jesus was black.[13] In 2004 Jesus was voted "greatest black icon of all time" by the British journal New Nation. The journal commented jokingly that he must have been black because "he called everybody 'brother', liked Gospel, and couldn't get a fair trial".[14]

I hope you noticed that it was the BBC reporting about atrocities in their own society in order to draw attention of law enacting & enforcement agencies as well as the general public to such malaise.
I was hoping you would post links of stories from government-sponsored media in these slave-originating countries suggesting that the issue is being addressed.
BTW, it is not a defence for stealing to say that someone else is also stealing. You need to serve your punishment first so they can have time to deal with the unlucky others.

Several things are pertinent to note here . . . the form of "slavery" you claim goes on in the UK is regarded AS A CRIME and is severely punished under the law. It is very different from the government-backed forms of institutionalised slavery that goes on in arab nations like Sudan and Mauritania where slavery has NEVER been abolished.

Amazing. Jesus Christ was a Jew . . . that one is an established fact over 2000yrs old. His genealogy both from mother and father is in the bible for ALL to see. Citing a wikipedia article as the source of ur information is laughable.

By the way i think the REAL question you shld be asking is WHY al'lah, an arab imperialist "god" chose ALL his so-called prophets bar m'ohammad from the jewish race.

Re: Slaves In Sudan by boyscout: 1:28pm On Mar 18, 2008
I do strongly agree to the call for Muslims to speak against the modern day slavery. Their is no justification for such inhuman act .It is quite pathetic that they are more concern about the plight of Arab Palestinians than their own African brothers. Arab Imperialism( this different from Islam) at play,as many of the victims of this Dafur crisis are even Muslims. I believe man just use the tenet of religion to exploit gullible ones.Despite the anti-Islam policies been claimed against the west, they should reckon with the fact that the west have done tremendously in Dafur where there silence(which I think is consent)has helped to perpetuate inhuman crimes.(I think when AIT gets all the Money they would become our own Aljazerra and all these atrocities would be beamed straight to our room our way then we would understand the magnitude of crime been committed there smiley)

In Africa, the Arabs have maintained a policy of not seeing themselves as African first-referring to those in the Maghreb State, they see themselves as Arabs with more loyalty to the middle east Arab states.

Even in this bless country of ours -Nigeria the Arabs here see themselves more superior and get away with virtually everything (Ask any one that have worked with them). With this mentality, just imagine what it would be like to be working in their own country.

The west took our brothers and sister in ship loads, inhuman as that may be,we can see for our selves what has become of their offsprings. The Arab did the same with herds of camel over centuries yet we can not point at one individual prominent within that community that is of Black African ancestry.

Shame on the Arabs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
