Lagos To Eradicate Public Defaecation by Boyoorisha: 8:22am On Jan 29, 2013
LAGOS State Government has embarked on measures to eradicate defaecation in public places by adopting the Community Led Total Sanitation, CLTS, model.

CLTS model seeks to eradicate open defaecation and promote household latrine construction.

The CLTS approach is used globally for scaling up sanitation and has been piloted in Nigeria and found to be appropriate in scaling up sanitation with contributions of all stakeholders.

Commissioner for Rural Development, Cornelius Ojelabi, said yesterday, at a six-day Train the Trainers’ Workshop on CLTS held in Lekki, Lagos, saying government was adopting the model to eradicate open defaecation in the state, while government would concentrate on providing sanitation facilities in public places.

“The adoption of this model is sequel to the global and national successes recorded by the approach and our quest for excellence,” adding that the adoption would help to improve sanitary condition of communities in Lagos.

“Lagos State aims to be one of the top ten megacities in the world in terms of living indices.

“To achieve this noble desire, there is need to intensify efforts to scale up sanitation, most especially as a proactive measure to the report of WHO/UNICEF joint monitoring programme for water and sanitation which states that about 1.1 billion people in the world still defecate openly and that 81 per cent of the reported data is accounted for by just 10 countries in the world, of which Nigeria is inclusive,” he stated

Great !

This is so important now in Lagos as some unscrupulous fellows have invaded Lagos, they bath, eat and defaecate publicly in Lagos.

The task force should take note of these areas as quickly as possible.

-Orile Iganmu-The hausas and truck drivers at that Truck Park have totally messed that place,I cover my nose or wind-up each time i pass through esp.when traffic holds you up.

-Mile 2-just around the destroyed complex, people have continued to dump human excreta within and around the residential estate as they have moved their shops closer to the residential estate.

-Costain-the Lagos state new Rail cònstruction and the bridge passways still habours miscreants who pollute these places and yet we all drive pass without taking action esp.the government officials.

This act of defaecating publicly is completely barbaric and crazy !

In some coutries abroad, this despicable act is a capital Punishment that calls for your head and that is if you are not cross-examined to be insane.

Lagos please ensure this is faded out ! Its a crazy act.

Very good move.

When we say ' Fashola for President ' they say we are tribalistic! How can we develop as a country if we don't field our top 11?

I quite agree that Fashola has his faults ...but the gap between Fashola and his colleagues (plus our clueless President) is really huge that one begins to wonder whether some state governors (plus our inept President ) know the meaning of 'government'
