The Kogi Government has banned female teachers in public primary and secondary schools from wearing trousers during school hours.

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs Grace Elebiyo, made this known in a statement in Lokoja on Wednesday.

According to Elebiyo, any female teacher who violates the order will be made to face appropriate disciplinary action.

She said that the action became necessary following the discovery that female teachers in the state had not been complying with their professional dressing code.

Elebiyo explained that the ministry would no longer tolerate a situation where teachers in the state dressed anyhow to their places of work.

She also expressed displeasure over the refusal of some teachers and pupils to resume more than two weeks after the end of the first term holiday, and said that this was unacceptable.

Elebiyo said that government would soon embark on the rehabilitation and upgrading of facilities in primary and secondary schools in the state.
