Ibn Khaldun & Emile Durkheim both shared the same view that religion serves as a unifying factor in any society I.e Religion is a great binding force that brings people closer in any society. But reverse is the case in Nigeria because religion is on its deathbed.

One other thing that unites the masses in Nigeria is football but it baffles me when our dear government couldn't pay for the TV rights to bring ongoing AFCON 2013 to our homes, reason been that the fee LC2 requested was too outrageous but permit me to say the fee won't be outrageous If its to be siphoned.

The FG has stopped paying for subsidy fee over a year and the deal was that the money used in paying for subsidy could be channeled elsewhere, ever since there have been hike in fuel prices, increment in transport fares, increment in tuition fees, increment in prices of goods & services e.t.c

The question that comes to mind is what then do we set to enjoy as Nigerians?Things going from bad to worse....Arrghh

We are enjoying One Nigeria as prescribed by Gowon. To crown it all, we have fresh air now. The transformation agenda will soon follow.

There is no country in the world that religion serves as a way of unifying people, stop spreading bullshit, second, it is not the Nigerian governments responsibility to bring AFCON to Nigerians, you people depend too much on the government, whether it is how we have been conditioned or not, unless you were born in 1970 such a backward mindset is not forgivable. I think it was HiTV, if they still exist yell at them and AiT and NTA etc leave the government out of it, they have things that they are actually responsible for.

Get the message right...ITs not that we are asking too much from the govt or they are solely responsible to bring the AFCON matches to our homes but the message is that they could have influence BON if they really want to bring smiles to Nigerians face....We've had a lot of public office holder mis-manage money above what LC2 demanded.

..The principle of egalitarianism was more pronounced when Nigeria was under regionalism, at least going by what obtains in each region. Ironsi scattered that wonderful platform and Gowon watered it to maturity by his creation of 12 states, a precedent that led to Nigeria’s precarious situation till date. No thanks to these two soldiers! You will agree with me that, a belligerent Nigeria is what this present arrangement (a too powerful central government plus a multi-coloured system of government) has turned Nigeria into. I would have preferred to see a more united and purposeful Nigeria entrenched in the principle of egalitarianism but with this present arrangement? No way! I would rather be a staunch supporter of a bloodless divided Nigeria; I believe Nigeria can divide peacefully! What many emotional-laden Nigerians have failed to understand is that we only practiced with regionalism that favoured federalism for 6 years, if we had stay a little longer with it, by now we (as a Nation) would have been the “real giant of Africa” and a force to be reckoned with economically in the comity of nations!

The bane of our structural developments is corruption and it is deeply rooted in our current system of government, we need total overhauling probably a 'Plebiscite' on the next line of action! We need a broad-based approach to issues on ground, trust me, Nigerians are wiser now and more in-tune with events therefore, a way forward is a people-oriented programme

I guess this thread is meant for the supporters of the Present Administration. . .apparently they are the only ones who enjoy stuff.

They are the only ones who enjoy 24rs of light where everyone else can't even remember what light looks like.

They are the ones who are getting millions of dollars worth of contract jobs, that's why they can jeer at their counterparts living abroad to come back home because of the "Many Opportunities to make money"...forget the millions of graduates looking for jobs.

They are the ones who drive on the best roads, so they don't understand when others talk about bad roads.

The have access to the best hospitals and clinics and their support of the FG makes them immune to being blown up by the terrorists killing people like flies.

The truth is the Supporters of the present Administration live in the REAL NIGERIA where everything is perfect and the rest of us. . .well we are living in a HELL but calling it Nigeria just to give Nigeria a bad name.

So all haters of Nigeria - STAY AWAY!!

Oya PointB, Billy Boy, Taraqwhathisname and the rest of y'alls aliases. . .The floor is all yours!!

the only shi-t around here is you, if u ar ignorant of a fact check or ask the ppl that knows. Indonasia is a perfect example of how religion unite different tribes of ppl. As religion cut across culture and identity, malasia to a lesser degree, the maldives but to mention a few, they say "little knowledge is a dangerous thing"

It baffles me when people say football unites Nigerians. Are we talking about 90 mins of unity? Is that unity? After the match what happens to the unity?

you forgot to add these to the list:

*little or no income taxes (you can evade tax without going to jail)
*socialising freely, you can close the street to host your guests for a party
*little electricity tariffs, and if you get disconnected, simply get a ladder when NEPA officials are gone and re-connect it yourself
*If you work for the govt, occasional laxities (e.g absconding from duty post by 3pm) can be tolerated grin
*You are free to bargain/haggle the prices of goods and services at the market

funny thing is a lot of Nigerians would rather come here n complain rather than set out to make changes.
Many on this thread would be quick to compare us with super powers forgeting we are a developing country which i believe provides the greatest number of 'developmental opportunities'.
Ironically these same people forget there is a price and are unwilling to pay the price to 'get there'.
All in all before coming here to grumble you had better remember THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PERFECT SYSTEM even super powers have their challenges.
If you aint ready to make a change then STFU

Really? Okay:

1. you guys don't pay any tax whatsoever! Yet you want infrastructural development. It doesn't work that way sorry.

2. 90% of nigerians don't pay for electricity. No meter, no nothing. You just call on the nearest electrician to do 'direct connection' for you. Mtcheew yet you want light to improve.

3. You engage in all types of unruly behaviour (including the ones i've stated above) without getting arrested.

4. When you contravene rules and unfortunately, an official tries to caution/sanction you guys, you argue with them (and you are the one at fault most times).
When you frustrate them, and they now shoot you, you will be throwing your weight around and publishing one side story.
5. You use browsing cheats openly.....it's illegal peeps.
6. You pirate anything pirateable. And no one catches you.
7. You do your job (civil service especially) without dedication, and no one questions you.
8. Government opens a well-equipped hospital today and next month, the equipments have been stolen one after the other by medical staff (nigerians). 6 months later, the hospital looks like a grave yard due to the mismanagement and poor maintainance culture (-of other people's properties) of nigerians. Yet, no one (the M.D. - A nigerian) cares to investigate the issue.

9. You drive recklessly on roads......and no regard for any rule.
10. Mehn it's a free world in naija and you claim you don't enjoy anything. Oh puhlease! Spare me.

That's why they end up in prison when they travel out of the country. Nigerians don't even know right from wrong again; that the reason why whenever a governor tries to bring back the rule of law, they criticise them. They are so comfortable with their primitive ways. I shake my head.
