i can only surmise that you have been lving at the north pole in the past 10 years.

Nokia? Palasa Phones? Niokia no get rival for palasa phone bros. take a short survey around u. techno ke? all the techno phones combined no sell reach nokia torchlight
Bros, I think you are the one living at the north pole. Tecno phones are already displacing nokia phones in the market, very rugged and reliable, great value for far less money. The discerning ones have noticed it but the blind ones will see it in three years time.

It's actually a good phone, maybe not suitable to the immediate market in Africa but nonetheless a good spec. If W8 mobile succeeds this can.

ALL GSM operators in Nigeria and a lot of foreign service providers use their access and core network elements. And Microsoft? Yet you call them ailing?

The real problem is that NL is being overrun by empty heads. Its amazing to see such levels of ignorance, simply amazing.

One interesting feature is the power saving. You rarely get a phone with such specs capable of staying up that long.

But wtf is "Huawei 4Afrika - couldn't they get a better model name? As if we don't have lots of folks here that can afford the high end devices.

China through Huawei is certainly displacing USA and Europe in Telecomm. They have since chased Motorola and Ericsson from the Telcom infrastructure market.

worse still its not like the build quality and specs on this phones will be anything worthwhile.

and even worse there are countless budget androids that sell for less, eg those popular Techno phones.

android is the biggest problem every other phone os has. u can criticise it all u want, the concept is simply on point.

How pathetic!
You know, as a fanboy you never disappoint and like I keep saying, a fanboy will always be a fanboy.

Tell me what this thread has to do with android and why you and your folks have decided to pollute every thread on this section?

I don't know how you got the 30-40k price, but you know you're wrong. I remember I've handled this issue of phone pricing with you before.

Its funny how a leading tech company wants to bring specialised products with local content to Africa and all you can do is criticise.

Seriously, I don't know where you get this zeal from but like I've asked you before, let me ask you again: does google buy phones for you that you can't see any thing good in a non-android product?

Again this is really pathetic.

Leopantro: @ 4llerbuntu, good point there. you just can't best the uniqueness of Android. I have two friends that got the Nokia windows phone and they are seriously regretting it. the low cost windows phone will have sub par functionality and will still require zune ( in this day and age.? ). my first Android phone was 20K and I was performing wonderful and amazing things with it. I have gone through their app store; is very depressing. considering you can't side load apps on a widows phone, why waste time and money?

Another blind follower of your master fanboy.

I don't know where you get your stuff from but low cost windows phones are much smother than their android counterparts. That's an undisputable fact.

In as much as I want options, but the iPhone still does everything through iTunes and iOS is by far the most profitable phone OS currently.

I've been to the WP app store and its anything but depressing. It may not be as large as android, but its got lots of good apps. I doubt that's there is any basic app you would need as a Nigerian that's not already there.

blackchild09: windows mobile knw they are losing it that's why they come up with cheap mid range smartphone @4ller if it's more than 30k for the phone I agree with you no body will buy it, so you can't even side load apps and I was reading some where earlier a dude was complaining about there App store that most apps will say not available in this region Even there official twitter app

Another religious follower here.

Your problem is that you don't want to pay for apps and you're just looking for a way to forward piracy.

While I'll admit that buying apps is very hard in Nigeria leading many of us to piracy (including me), you should maintain some morality by not boasting about it cos not everyone wants to pirate stuff.

I think this phone is dead on arrival! First of all, the name sounds too geeky for the average fashionable African (lady). "So what do you call this? 4Afrika. (yinmu)" that sounds like a smartphone segregated from the larger (international) audience and as such, don't think it will appeal much to Nigerians especially.. Personally after using Symbian, Blackberry and now Android, I don't think I would want to 'downgrade' in my smartphone adventure unlike most people who wouldn't advance beyond stage 2 especially with the launch of the new BBZ10. Though important, most of the time, it shouldn't be about money when you target emerging African markets, especially on durable products that people attach value to. lastly, does it have a bundled internet? if not, except it's battery can charge itself without power source , I think Microsoft and Huawei should go back to the design table.

first off,I love Android but before Android I loved symbian. I sell Android tablets and make money from the side jailbreaking and installing apps for both IPhones,IPads and Androids. were I work people seek my advice before buying any tablets. even the guys that bought the windows phones needed my help to set up zune on their laptops. so I don't follow the pack, its from my years of experience

Nice seeing you reel out your resume online . .Kudos on that front . .but all you typed above is needless and inconsequential, cos it doesn't match your grasp on basic things . . . .

Guess your referring to "smoked by windows Phone" . . . .Windows phone is romantically more simplistic and fluid than project Andriod . .i don't know what your yapping about . . .

Leopantro: or the time they were boasting about the mega pixels of their lumina phone in their ads until it was proven that they were using another phone to take those pictures.

Old gist, not after exhaustive reviews by tech sites of the supreme and unquestionable camera quality of the Lumia 920 . . .

Anyone arguing against the Camera supremacy of the Lumia 920 device over other Android phones is a stark novice . . . .

Lols. no, you are waiting

I believe the general question is "what's the point of a windows 8 phone?"
was the same question asked by PC advisor. ( you do know PC advisor? they don't work in Africa. at least i'm not sure). you can check this link for the write up.

now, before you start foaming at the foaming at the mouth and people start wondering what's up, please read the link where it says "3 reasons why windows 8 phone WILL (not has) succeed".

now doesn't that make you feel better? don't you feel all warm inside, like a ruptured spleen?

please note I didn't contribute to the articles in any form so what ever floats your boat.
peace man.

So the best you could do is scamper to unearth an irrelevant article to buttress your empty retorts . . .Lolz . .

And the dude feels the web is seriously lacking articles praising and eulogizing the Windows Phone to the high heavens undecided . This dude is funny cheesy . . .

Recent reports shows that the WP 8 platform surpassed the BB as the the 3rd largest platform in the US in the 4th quarter of last year . .

The adoption of the WP 8 device is even more impressive and pronounced in Europe with demand hugely surpassing supplies . . .

http://www.wpcentral.com/windows-phone-took-3rd-place-q4-2012-expense-blackberry

People might argue for BB10 launching this year . .but how far can the BB10 sales go with upcoming announcement of the SG4 and the Lumia 41 MP pureview device codenamed EOS

You need to do better than pick up a lazy article, then touting it as your position . . . .You simply said nothing . . . .

for the more reasonable people, perhaps i should repost my initial post for clarification

4llerbuntu: forget story. this will not sell Jack in Nigeria.

why?

the used phone market will not let it.

I'm sure even a pepper seller realises that its not only android phones that are sold as used phones

150 dollar phone plus imports and profit mark up will be nearly 35-40k

we don't do mobile financing by telcos here.

The article says the phones are meant for afrika, they are not going to be sold in europe or north america.

FFS the name is Huawei4Afrika.

it goes ahead to state its for retail at 150 dollars

last time i checked exchange rates it was above 160 naira. 150x160= 24k
plus import duties, plus distribution/profit markups is a MINIMUM of 35k retail

for example, incase u dont understand phone pricing, the announced prices for BB Z10 calculates to 112k, retail prices iv heard suggest it starts at 140k naira in naija. thats a difference of 25k+

lets assume people who want to sell huawei only want to make 5 thousand naira and that will take care of ALL expenses

but unfortunately a much better phone with a better usage profile can be bought for that price. I.e a gs2.

why would you buy this huawei for 35-50k when u can have a easily hackble android with better rep, enough Apps and games and a thriving piracy community?

last time i asked for prices of refurbished phones,i was told a SGS2 now retails for 40k
Blackberry Torch 2 is around 35k or less
a lumia 900 used is around 45k

i purposefully stated this examples, because apparently my mention of "ANDROID" seems to be making people's brains malfunction

Now remember i stated at first that this will not sell Jack in Nigeria.

Can anyone tell me with all honesty that he will recommend that anyone go buy a 30k Huawei phone regardless of whatever OS it runs
when he can buy a much better refurb phone for 5k more.

a phone that will last longer (durable), most likely have more features, be better supported (more fellow users), More pirated apps for use (and admit or not, this is a major selling point), be easier to repair (ask china phones and tablet owners what they go through) etc etc

Techno phones sell because they are clearly priced lower. there is one for 18K that i see talked about on NL a lot.
How many people will buy a Techno ahead of a samsung if they are priced equally?

worse still its not like the build quality and specs on this phones will be anything worthwhile.

and even worse there are countless budget androids that sell for less, eg those popular Techno phones.

i think maybe i should add Blackberries, Nokia etc etc.

i see the word android makes people lose sense here.

MOD PLEASE CENSOR THE WORD ANDROID, so we can have peace on the phone board

Now what a sane person would do is tell us why a 30k huawei will outsell the refurbished phones market.

incidentally this is exactly what happened to the Nokia symbian market in nigeria. how many people buy 50k symbian phones when they can buy a refurb phone of a ***EVil*** OR a Blackberry?

u do understand that 80% of blackberries sold in nigeria are refurb or "london used"?

JEEZ, what is wrong with people on this site these days?

@ocelot2006, you don't have to go about insulting people in forums. Forums are meant to inform people sir.
When I said ailing companies I was not referring to Huawei but MS. My statement was based on these market trends - Windows phone is in decline, PC is also in decline and that's affecting PC makers including MS. This is as a result of high demand for smart phones and tablet PCs. Also see what's happening to Dell presently.

I think we should distinguish the hardware from the the OS. Two different aspects.

The so called 4Africa phones will come with a 4inch and 480X800 resolution. That's a mediocre. Why not 1025x700? What's the RAM size? They are using dual core Snapdragon because in all other markets, including China where Huawei is coming from, are demanding for quad core processors. So they choose, as usual, to dump the dual core in Africa. That processor can't even sell in China at that price. What's the pixel of the dual camera? 4GB internal storage isn't bad because you can always go external.

One question that is yet to be answered is the software aspect of these phones and that's the major issue here and not the hardware. Windows phone is going down. Where are the developers and apps for the phone? Will that be from that crappy 'store'? Or isn't it a modern smart phone? What if I'm a gamer, where can I get good games for the phone? Paying Huawei to push these Windows phones to Africa, as they did with Dell and Nokia, will not help Ms. The Techno phones already have better spec than these phones with a better os capabilities. WP8 lacks hardware support so OEM aren't going WP8; it's a restrictive world when compared with the free world of ...

Someone talked about power saving. Why talking about power saving when you've not seen the capacity of the phones' batteries.

Please peeps checkout ZTE's, 2nd largest phone marker in China, low end range of Android Jelly Bean phones and their prices before you keep saying this is a good phone.

'Why would I go Windows? Windows phone has the worst of all worlds.'
