Help us understand what this tax is all about , and why it is imposed on non muslims living in a muslim dominated land. Is it meant to finance jihad which to me is war against kufr ( dumb christians think kufr=infidels ?) or is it just meant to be paid by non believers as acceptance of their lower status compared to the majority muslims in the society ? Or is it a salafist invention? The other day an Egyptian cleric said all kufr should pay jizzya on national TV. I also read somewhere that in India a Hindu was supposed to accept his lower status against muslims and that the Hindu should have even opened his mouth to allow the jizzya collector to spit in his mouth when paying this tax. Is this true?
