** 69 Transformers Vandalised in 6 Months, Says Ikeja Disco

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company has stated that a total number of 69 distribution transformer substations under its network were vandalised and various electrical items stolen in the last six months.

The company said in a statement during the weekend that the increasing rate of vandalism of its equipment in many parts of its network had reached unacceptable proportion.

It noted that vandalism which had initially reduced after the conviction of two vandals to various terms of imprisonment had assumed a dangerous dimension in the last six months.

“During this period, a total number of 69 Distribution Transformer Substations were vandalised and various electrical items were stolen from these stations, thereby throwing the communities being supplied from the stations into DARKNESS
,” said the statement.

The company also noted that the socio-economic effect of this ACT OF SABOTAGE was high, adding that apart from throwing communities into DARKNESS, the cost of replacing vandalised equipment is colossal.

The company disclosed that it could no longer bear the cost of vandalism and charged Community Development Associations (CDAs) and other well-meaning members of the communities to assist in curbing this menace in their locality.

The Ikeja Disco further stated that it spent over N20million to replace the equipment in the 67 vandalised substations.
According to it, the money would have been better expended on new projects for network expansion.

“The management will like to once again advise Community Development Associations and other well-meaning community members to be alert and assist in curbing vandalism of electrical equipment within their locality. The management also seeks the continued support of the Police, the State Security Service (SSS) and other security Agencies in putting an end to vandalism of electrical equipment,” the statement said.

Do-or-die, rofo-rofo and amala politics have already started in ACN controlled Lagos state. Those who have not seen improved power supply should transfer their aggression appropriately (to criminal or political vandals)

Foolish people why are they complaining? is it not the same PHCN staff who vandalize and steal the cables? no be dem dey thief am? just like in my hood, cables were stolen from the transformer by PHCN workers pretending that they were repairing the transformer. Before we knew what was happening, the ediots told us to contribute 200k to buy another cable. We contributed the money and our cable was brought back in the next 20minutes.can you imagine?
PHCN staff should be held responsible for cable vandalism. they are the ones who know very much about the equipments.

can't you be sincere with your comments for once? what has ACN got to do with the vandalism of PHCN transformers? Is Lagos the only state where vandalism takes place?I don't know where you are driving at but you should try and reduce this malicious attitude of yours towards non pdp states.

800 transformers vandalized in A’Ibom communities

No fewer than 800 transformers have been vandalized in communities
in Akwa Ibom State in the last two years. As a result, communities suchas Itu, Udua ekpa, Nung Oku, Ibiono Ibom in Itu and Ibesikpo Asutan local government areas of Akwa ibom state have been without
electricity.

To guard against a recurrence, residents within the Uyo Business
District of the power holding company have vowed to protect their
transformers and all other assets belonging to the PHCN in their areas.

Some of the residents of Uyo, who spoke with Saturday Mirror
expressed concern about the rate with which transformers were being
vandalized and the inability of the police to comprehend the vandals.
Former Transition chairman, Itu Local Governmentr Area, Idongesit
Ituen, recalled that he had to reward some vigilance groups with cash
for arresting some of the vandals.

Although the area had been without electricity for a while, he said
vandals rather than PHCN should be blamed for plunging the area into
darkness.

Akwa Ibom must be an ACN control state to record this unprecedented amount of vandalism. Ssmh for how a medical doctor, that should be in the hospital reducing himself to the level of an arsss licking toad. Pathetic!

Definitely, there are criminal elements involved in vandalism but you cannot rule out sabotage sponsored by opposition political parties.

Moreover ACN members are present even in Akwa Ibom, just like other states of the federation.

The recent upsurge in rate of vandalism in Lagos is very suspicious and involvement of haters cannot be ruled out.

You knew all that but what did you do about it? In case you dont know, it is your constitutional RESPONSIBILITY to assist law enforcement agents to do their job.

Hopefully privatisation of PHCN will help curb the rampant vandalism of PHCN installations because private companies will not patronise stolen power cables. If there's no patronage for stolen cables, there will be no incentive for stealing cables.

Dude, stop looking for cheap exit by making more retardedd comments. Learn to stop digging when you are in a hole.

First you said vandalism in Lagos was because ACN "amala or rofo-rofo" politics and hatred and when I called you out by showing you that vandalism is more pronounced in Akwa Ibom, a PDP state than Lagos. You quickly said there are members of ACN is Akwa Ibom.

What next if I show you vandalism in Ghana? may be you come up with "yeah, you know ACN members went for seminar and decided to vandalise some transformers in Accra". well, like I said earlier, I don't have problem with hustlers like you looking for food. Thanks.

Of course it wasn't staged, even though it was not properly done. How will they enjoy improved power supply when boys from tgeir own hood have vandalised the transformers? I'm sure the very same thing will reoccure if PHCN installs a new batch. Yet they blame GEJ for their power woes.
