History was made when a couple became the first ever couple to back a Doctorate Degree at the University of Lagos.The husband who goes by the name Dr. Olusegun Samuel,and his wife Temitope, who met in the University bagged the degree and were awarded a PhD in marine ecology and botany respectively at the Multipurpose Hall of the institution,which served as the venue for the ceremony.This achievement led to ecstasy amongst the students who could not hold back their joy,even as Prof. Bello Rahamon announced that the couple were among the 47 students to be awarded doctorate degrees.Though they were not the only ones that were awarded such degrees,other students such as Miss Babtony Flora, who got a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.88 out of a possible 5.0 ,bagged a first class degree in psychology,while Ibok Favour Asuquo, who emerged the overall best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.89 also bagged a first class degree in accountancy ,but the couples were really the ones that pulled the crowd as they were accorded with standing ovation from the students and audience while their awards were given to them,in line with other prizes which included cash,plaques and certificates from the university.When asked how they could scale through the hurdles the couples said that it had to do with a lot of hard work, sleepless nights, and huge financial resources to complete the programme.While speaking the husband said “It took a lot of sacrifice. But since we were both involved, we were able to manage our time. Whenever I was not at home, my wife would be there. Again, at times, we worked so late on the campus that we did not get home until 11.00pm,”.The wife who also added her voice said their love story started on the day the husband who was having internet problem on his system had complained while she was browsing in one of the offices in the department and she had preferred solution,and from their the journey to they finally becoming husband and wife kicked off,and here they are with their doctorate degrees happily celebrating together.Now the marriage is blessed with a son.
