This is from a friend qho wants FG to address this menace

'I have had the opportunity to visit the Kirikiri maximum prisons about 8 times in the last 2 months. And its a shame that the prison does not have a doctor on 24 hour call. The doctor pops in once in a while perhaps once in a week!!!

Once prisoners are locked in, warders do not respond to any cries for help! No medical emergency calls are entertained! Almustaphas generousity sustains most of the inmates.

The room temperatures are unbearable and the cells are choked with human beings. Prisoners buy and maintain feuling of generators. Almustapha has recently fitted fans in some cells. Visitors pay all manner of bribes before they can see inmates. Persons awaiting trial are placed in same cells with condemned prisoners.

Boko haram suspects who are yet to be tried are treated like prisoners on death row.

The Tennis court is excellent courtesy of Al mustapha and I have been invited to play as often as I can. People with manifest psychiatric disorders are refused referrals by prison doctors. The prison medical facility has no drugs! The prison foods are so bad they are rejected by starving prisoners. Wives of warders have cornered all manner of legal and illegal supply contracts .

People pay different sums for different cells. Privileges have prices and the chief warder is a dispenser of life and death!
And this is the foremost national prison, then just imagine a prison in Yobe!

A friend there is diabetic and hypertensive. And his condition is now grave but no one cares and the doctor often doesn't show up for days! A half trained nurse shows up to occupy space in that clinic. Yet this prison has over 700 inmates.

Shame. National shame! It doesn't take much to go to prison and anyone can.

Every warder knows, every magistrate knows, every inmate knows. My friend passed the first nite in a cell that housed 5 other inmates, all condemned prisoners who had buckets in that tight cells for human waste collection. They slept skin to skin,on a floor soggy with their sweat. He was transfered their at nite by the chief warder so that he would understand the need to pay quickly for a better cell. And he obliged as early as dawn allowed him.

Referals to hospitals have prices. I learnt the doctor said he doesn't refer psychiatric patients to a psychiatric hospital because all inmates will feign psychiatric illnesses. So he has left a man who is in deep throes of a psychiatric disorder to remain there awaiting the hangman for 22 years now.
The man in question was taken out for hanging about 20years ago but returned for some queer reasons after all those taken out with him were executed. The trauma tipped him overboard and he lost contact with reality since then. But he hasn't seen a psychiatrist. People get so mad that they attempt suicides yet they aren't referred. Its crazy

Many of the inmates pay warders to smuggle in phones. So many have their phones but the warders have informants all over the place.

You can send a warder to buy and smuggle in a phone for you and the very next day, warders come to 'raid' ( conduct general searches) and same warder finds and seizes the phone from you. Then the next day you send for another!'

Please tweet, FB, mail, chat, message...so this can get to the appropraite authourities. This is the only power our generation can use to push for change. Change must come.
