question out to the gentlemen, (womyn chip in
as well)...

Describe how cultural attitudes/perceptions,
laws & politics have either a) hindered or b)
propelled the progression of womyn in your
society. Give examples of changes that need to
made, practices that should stay with any
references to the news #thinkofwomen #

Politics.
During the begining of the american politics, mid to late 1790s. History made us to realise that only men were engaged in politics. But as adam became aware that he was unclad, i.e, when women discovered politics is not something of gender based, they started venturing into the politics.
Women's adventure into politics gave an awareness to other women in the US and outside world that there are still some post they could vie for. Later, they started going to the house such as senates, representative and assembly.
In these houses, some women tried initiating the passage of some bills that directly and indirectly affects the women. Like formal education for female children, female circumcision, gender equalities, etc.
Formal education to the female gave them the intellectual ability to occupy some post like academics, ministerial, financial, political, judicial.
The post occupied by some of these women created a psychological agitation in the younger females making them to create a role model and mentor out of these intellects and making them to strive to achieve the post or even higher.
Examples of such intellectual women are Olufunmi Ransom-Kuti, Pharmacist Dora Akuyili

Women are still better administrators in my opinion although they could make thing more difficult than they ought to be but put a serious woman in charge of a business and go to sleep. only the ambitious ones tend to go into politics...there is more to be done in this regard sha.

in Canada's Criminal Code. .
Section 271 defines a sexual assault as a situation in which " somebody touches you in a
sexual way on purpose,
directly or indirectly, without your consent.
The sexual harassment law made women to realise they can perform their responsibility without the fear of being sexualized or sexually harassed.
It also makes them to realise that they have access to the government facilities as much as their male counterpart without any fear of being sexually abused.

Literally, law is an official rule that binds and also empowers!
"Women’s rights are human
rights and should be treated as
such." To quote President KR
Narayanan.
Fundamental human right is a law that doesn't bias a man against a woman. This empowers women to strive to acquire with their male counterpart as long as they can for any post or event.

My primary school teacher told me that culture is the total way of life of the people. And it encompasses language, clothing, food, sport, law, politics, religion, etc.
Some pure old cultures demean women. E.g women not being entitle to formal education cos they are men's property, women not counted as human being in old hebrew's culture, Women not being entitled to be an heir to her father's property after his death in some african cultures.
I got to realise that culture is something that is not that rigid and has been diluted or better put integrated with some cultures through civilization, colonialism, war, trade, adventure and sport.
Maybe before, the mentality in a settlement is a woman can't successfully rule the community. They got invaded by britain during the elizabethian(both i and ii) or victorian era and got colonized, the observation of the way the queens rule the colonist can possibly change the mentality of the colony and make them realise that woman can rule successfully if given the opportunity. This cultural interference can lead to the developement of women in the society.
Some cultures still promote women developement cos they don't underestimate the power of women in the society. Ashanti seems to be one of this cultural tribe.
