Lived in one of the best baracks in the country back then for a while. The now defunct 311 Field Artillery Regiment, Epe. Well laid out, neat modern buildings all ensuite, electricity and water to all flats and best of all a private beach where we chill out on weekends and eat plenty coconuts. What an experience. It didn't feel like a barrack at all, more like those adventure expeditions. Yes it was far.

I was once a barrack boy and I had plenty of fun and learned plenty things for myself. Barrack children are bad barrack children are bad it all depend on the individual mindset. I tried to distinguish myself from the others back then because I focused on the future irrespective of the fact that sometimes I joined up to cook one funny act or another.

This is my Roll-Call:
Myohaung barracks, Lagos ( small place, kind of cozy and warm)
Ribadu Cantonment, kaduna (The Good, the bad and the most awesome)
ECR Ede, Osun State ( More of a farming community than an Army barracks)

mumu like u..get it into ur head.
i lived at kayode police barracks at marine beach apapa until 2007.for those of us who know there opposite mobil apapa will know we have army barracks near npa quartrs.whch is nt far from signal barracks and ashanti barracks.how abt navy barrack opposite press coca cola?
My guy go dive 4 hot water abeg if u no knw wetin to talk.

Now u are talking, of all forces, police barrack is d dirtiest..in bonny camp where I stay all dis u listed up does not happen, we don't pay nepa bills, each flat comes wit kitchen and toilets as long as u are a soldier, except for those dat are retired and given bungalow to stay pending wen they get their entitlements...it is most safe and fun living there, and for d fighting, it hardly happen as pple get punished severly for it..as for gossiping, yes I agree wich is nor where idleness is other of d day..pple cooperate wella there, only in d barrack u will leave your children wit neighbours while u are out for daily bread..the issue of rape is rear (except for those girls wey dey dress half naked go greet man for house). Barack the most secured and fun place to stay..u will always recount your memory there

Archmed: I was born and bred in the barracks.Odogbo and 192 army baraks in Ibadan and Owode-Idiroko respectivly.
As sons and daughters of Officers and soldiers,d word discipline was entrenched.I wont lie abt d negative part of barrack life.Dirt, prostitution, brutality, gossip, waywardness, truancy, gambling, malnutrition ...name them,in any case, are all dis vices peculiar to 2barrack life alone?does it mean we dont have dem in our civilian society? Its easy 2 term these vices a barrack thing because of the confinement. Its also a foolish thing to do too.Buh i didnt assimilate all dis,all i assmilated was d concept of discipline passd 2us by our fathers, mutual respect and interactn, self reliance, ruggedity and endurance-d hallmarks of military life.
Like our fathers,we learn to be strong bold and if need be, confrontational, dat is mistaken as stubborness by bloody civilians.
I love my barrackLIFE!

My brother frm the same barrack.. Long time no see..

mumu lyk u...c fool o....
Blieve it or not dat s d truth or go ask those who have lived in barracks before.
A Barrack normally have 4 bathrooms,2 4 d males n 2 4 males with 27 or atyms 18 rooms in a barrack depending on how it is built...
Hater like u,abeg go use head knack stone 10times.
There are different types of structures in the barracks and bases and every personnel residing there, depending on their ranks, is assigned one. There are CBQs, SNCOQs, etc. Can't remember the meanings now. For the CBQs, they are of different types. Some have 4 toilets & 4 bathrooms to each floor of about 10 rooms and parlour and others have one toilet and bathroom to a room and parlour. The SNCOQs are structures with 2bedroom flat apartment and are different from CBQs. The officers(captain) and above have their own structures too which is different from the CBQs & SNCOQs. The officers & SNCO quarters are not usually as jam-packed as the CBQs. The officer's children are quite different(behaviourally and otherwise) from others even within the same barracks. So, depending on the type of structure/quarters you lived in, you might have a different story to tell. I grew up in 4 different army barracks in 4 different states in Nigeria and the last was army cantonment Ikeja. I was there during the January 2002 bomb blast. I survived it. Life in the barracks was fun for me remembering my childhood days. People who lived in the barracks have the tendency of being aggresive and stronger. It's the military up-bringing and koboko things. You just can't oppress a barrack boy or girl. Was glad I grew up in the barracks cos there are benefits.

Riba_man:

@ OP
I can swear that you have never lived in an Army barracks. Your post is a composite from various sources.
The Airforce and Navy barracks are in a class of their own, for many reasons.
Even amongst the Army barracks, there the Grade A ones like, Ojo Cantonment,Ikeja cantonment, Ribadu Cantonment, Mokola Barracks, Depot Barracks Zaria, and Rukuba barracks. The foregoing are the A-listers, the other are small time barracks of one brigade or units.
The life in the A-listers is not the same as life in the small ones.
Will be back with more gist, make I try do some work first.
did i mentioned that i stayd in army barracks?i said kayode police barrack, marine beach.
Barracks differ 4m one another.one i still love is navy barracks at press boundary the barrack is vry neat and quiet

Dr. Wise:
I have lived in both police and Army barracks for 20 years. I started up at the Otop-Abasi Police barracks, Calabar and later 34 Brigade, Eburutu barracks, Calabar.

Barrack live was fun as there was stiff competition both in football and in classroom amongst the blocks. When we get our results, you hear we have 6 first position in so so so block etc. Then the inter-block matches which were fun.

In police barracks, I got the privilege to stay at the women police block which is a 2-bedroom apartment with two wardrobes, a large kitchen, a balcony and a toilet/bathroom. Life in police barracks was much more interesting than the Army barracks. We stole wood from the nearby timber market and sleepers at other blocks' room footmats.

Going to the streams at Army barracks was aspect I relished but hated the generally wayward lifeestyle of the soldiers. One moment I hated the military was when my 52 years old uncle, a Corporal was sent to the guardroom by an NDA officer of about 25 yrs who was a captain. He ended up spending christmas in the guardroom and I hated the military thereafter.
yap u r ryt...in ma barracks too there was competition academically n in ftbll.i remembr when people frm army, custom or even navy barracks wil cme to our barracks to play match...o boy cme see pipu dy watch match includng ur family membrs n fwnds wl b there to cheer us up and we too no go wan Bleep up 4 home..

I had a sad and wonderfull experience.I used to reside in an Estate close to a Military Barracks and we usually crossed over to go look for women.I was dating a Col.Daughter and will never forget the day I was given d beating of my life by the Jealous Junior officers who were guiding the Officers Quarter after taking orders from the Lady Daughter.

I had fun when I relocated and usually go to visit my Cousin who is an Officer and I usually follow him around intimidating and Harrasing civilians and Junior officers.
