Do not blame anybody for snake entering into your room. I once killed a snake on my mother's bed in our village. I regretted killing it afterward because my mother told me that snakes are harmless unless you spook them, then, they bite you. First rule: Let snakes be.

Where i served in Torkula,Benue State, snakes moved around like rats. It wasn't a thing to be scared of. I almost got bitten one hot afternoon when i was taking a nap outside the corpers lodge. Meeehn! I had to forge a doctor's report to relocate to Makurdi and finish my primary assignment. I no fit take chances!

vifald101: I was sleeping on my bed in the male block one when some some other corps members in the main hall were shouting and telling me to jump out of the room.. I thought they weren't serious so I didn't respond instantly, when I saw that the shout was becoming more serious, I quickly wore my cloths and jumped out.. Some of the boiz then went inside the room and brought out the snake dead after some minutes.. I was so scared.. I wonder what our country is turning into.. The safety of corps members aren't even guaranteed.. The toilets are messed up.. We live like prisoners and refugees.. God help us.
bro, so me and u dey d same room ni... God!

This can happen anywhere that adjoins vegetations or trees; it's not necessarily unique to NYSC camps. Reminds me of when a long, green snake landed on my bed in school, no thanks to a small hole in the ceiling. The 'august visitor' calmly slithered into a nice comfy spot at the edge of my mattress, underneath my pillow. Fortunately, I was in the room at the time; if I wasn't there, I'd probably have jumped into bed later - oblivious of the 'surprise' that awaited me.

I am in that same room with the OP... I was outside when I heard it... Omo, it wasnt funny at all...

As you can see from the pic, it had swallowed something. That was what made it easy to kill. Na my bed exclass mate and bedmate na him see d thing sef...

I think it has been living in there and the room is in a T shape. The OP is at the head of the T while I am at the tail. The snake was transitting from the right room to the room at left. My bed mate wanted to come and pick his earphone when he saw the snake midway through the door that seperated the rooms into head and tail...

Na God save us ooh

CrazyMan: I thank God that the snake was discovered and killed...cos if it had bitten someone...
Can't bite, the snake just fed on a mammal or betterstill amphibian. The snake must have chased its prey to that room or trying to regulate its body temperature with SWR from indoor. Looks like a black cobra though.

coogar: this is so horrible!
snake was probably resting after swallowing a small mouse. they should have just taken it out of the room and let it stroll away peacefully. the snake wasn't threatening anyone and i doubt it's even venomous. why kill it?

shocked I'm not too sure that snake wasn't venomous. It looks like a cobra to me and they can do a LOT of damage. Fatalities from cobra bites are commonplace here.

I'm having goose pimples, cant imagine I spent 3 bleeping weeks in that damn camp last year, with the way I hate snakes, closing my eyes at night would have been a hell of a job, evidently, the sneaky reptile has been living around there for years, this goes to show that NYSC does not care to fumigate the camp territory before sending innocent souls there..corper wee ohhh waaaooo!

^^^^Sometimes things don't always go the way we plan. You are right - most snakes are harmless and they also avoid humans. The problem is that most human beings have an almost visceral fear of snakes. We kill first and ask questions later. There are also other times when humans are literally left with no option but to kill snakes that have wandered into human habitation - the risk of being bitten is simply too great to allow such snakes find their own way out. I cannot imagine anyone would be able to sleep in a room knowing that there was a spitting cobra or a black mamba lurking somewhere within.
