Members of the junior teaching staff of the Nigeria Police Schools in the South West region have sent a Save Our Souls (SOS) message to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over their condition of service in the last 25 years.
The teaching staff appealed to the police boss in a letter, addressed to him to intervene on the issue, as they were being deprived of promotion for over 25 years now. This development corroborates a report in a national daily in which a police school teacher claimed to have paid N30, 000 for promotion in 24 years. The teachers stated that many of them had worked for over 15 years, on the same level without promotion.

Their letter reads in part: “It is heartbreaking that some of us started on level 6 and retired on the same level while children of our bosses that we taught years ago are being placed over us without recourse to certificate and years of experience”.
They lamented that some of the Force Education Officers (FEO) in charge of the police schools did not help the matter as promotion exercises were carried out on the basis of connection with highly placed officers and people. Besides, the teachers also raised the alarm over spate of bribery and corruption in the system as some of them were catapulted from level 04 to 10, while junior staffs that were not favoured are threatened with severe penalties.
