An ad about the use of condom has been put down by Kenya authorities because religious organizations complained that it encouraged infidelity among women.

The ad is about a woman discussing about her irresponsible husband and her extramarital affair with another woman. The other woman advised her to always use condom with her lover.

This did not go well with many Kenyans even though there is a research stating that 30% of married kenyan women are into extramarital affair.

I feel the ad was actually passing a necessary message.

I felt the ad was encouraging infidelity. Something like, your s.ex` partner doesn't matter so long as you use condom.

However, there is a reality that many Kenyan women engage in extramarital affair and the ad was attempting to encourage safe sex among these women.

question.
Is kenya a religious society?
Re: Condom Ad Controversy In Kenya by ladman(m): 10:37am On Mar 24, 2013
It is a secular society, and i think, the ad should not have been put down. However some might still cite that the ad was anti cultural. I imagine it could be worse if such ad was made for Nigeria

So, a society should die in ignorance because its religious leaders wish to be prudish about an actual public health concern? Without context, how will people understand a message promoting behaviour change?

Yes, married people should not be unfaithful, but they are.

The religious group is entitled to it's opinion. At least they stood up for what they believe in. The constitution of the republic of Kenya gives them the right to voice out their concern.
Just like the condom people have the right to promote their condoms, the religious people have the right to promote their opinion on the condom issue.

pendo89: question.

Not a religious society in a sense that they have a state religion. But most Kenyans have a strong spiritual/religious belief system.whether ancestral,Islamic or Christian.
Also, the constitution of Kenya grants the right to all groups to freely express their point of view.

@eddy1977, religious opinion granted, how does that stop the spread of STI's? Religion will do its part to discourage infidelity. But for those with waning faith, they need public health campaigns to teach them the raw facts if life.

The advert message should not so much be "oh if you are going to cheat, wear condoms girlll", but rather it should be "cheating is damn reckless and you need to protect yourself (as well as your innocent partner) against pregnancy/STI's should you chose to do so"

....and in the meanwhile, Jehovah God is still watching us all.
