It is now obvious that the struggle to register All Progressives Congress (APC) by some coalition parties may not materialise after all.

A highly competent source at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) told Daily Champion that there is no way the coalition can succeed in registering the party with the commission because they are yet to meet any of the guidelines laid down for registering of parties.

Our source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said: “It is not possible in the face of these controversies for INEC to register coalition APC. There are guidelines set out for the registration of parties with the commission.

Part of the guidelines is not a letter for name reservation as did the coalition. INEC is not Corporate Affairs Commission where you could reserve names.

“In their case, it is even more difficult because the parties named in the so-called APC are already existing political parties and part of the condition is that for them to form a coalition, they must hold their conventions and lose their identities. This they have not done. This appears to be the greatest threat to the registering of the party.

“INEC is not going to pander to whimsies. The first APC that fulfils the condition for registration will definitely be registered. But as it appears today, the coalition APC can not succeed because the basic requirement for them to fulfill they are yet to do that”.

It would be recalled Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega last week, had called the promoters of the APC noise makers.

Jega had said the guidelines for registering new political parties are different from those for registered political parties wanting to merge, saying registered political parties merging must have agreed to merge and each of the political parties in the merger must have held a convention and agreed to withdraw their registration as a political party to become part of the new party to be form through the merger.

He said: “After their conventions, they are expected to write and request INEC to withdraw their former registration and say they want to join a new party. In spite of all the controversies, none of these political parties who want to merge has held their convention” Jega stated.

“We only read in the newspapers that they have the intention of merging and nobody wrote us until about five or six days ago. If anybody wants to register a political party, you are expected to tell INEC of your intention by saying that you want to register aparty with so and so name and you want to know the procedure for doing so.

“Only one group came. The group asked one lawyer to write INEC saying they wanted to form a political party with a particular name and they wanted to know the rules and procedures for registration as a political party.

“If this other group has done so, we would have replied them and tell them the rules and the procedures they are supposed to follow to be registered. So, the issue of whether we have collected the name of this other group and whether we have agreed to register them does not even arise because we just replied to their letter by telling them the procedure.

“While this was going on, some people started making noise saying that they wanted to merge with so, so name. Some of them were even saying that we have registered the other group with that name.

It is not done like that.
“People are just making noise over the name which is in the market while we have not even gotten to that stage. While all these noise were going on, another group came up seeking for registration with the same name.

“We have rules and guidelines for all this and we are determined to follow the rules to avoidany confusion. But we have not reached a stage where we can say a group has been registered with so, so name. So all these noise is just part of our politics in Nigeria”.

"Buhari-Tinubu loses bid...". Not even about APC anymore, its about Buhari-Tinubu.
Somany PDP-paid journalist these days. Not a single day goes without a news to kill the newly-formed party.

We are just some 2years to the election. Too early for these PDP-paid reporters to play mind games with nigerians who desire change.

When you mix water, kerosene, petrol and diesel together, what do you get, adulterated everything, in fact the solution should be called ADULTRATION.

I feel sorry for Tinubu especially, because his party APC is going down the drains because of his greed for more powers, when he should just be enjoying his modest achievements at the few states he has already, he will rather sacrifice his little for nothing at the end, it is very very unfortunate, it all boils down to insatiable greed for power and money.
