I've noticed this coincidence a long time ago.

Very true brov. It is the same story all through history. Northern Italy vs southern comes to mind too here.

1. Climate/Latitude: Climate is based on latitude, culture is based on climate. If you notice with all north south divided, the cultures are different. If you look at cultures on the same latitude, like Igbo, Yoruba, Ashante, Edo, Ashante, the differences are trivial. The languages are different due to distance, and the attire may change in pattern, but they'll dress for the same type of weather, farm the same foods, and form the same cultural institutions based on what they can do agriculturally. If you look at south america, african, and south east asia, cultures were similar due to tropical climate. where as europe and asia had similar institutions because the difference in climate as well. Then you go higher to inuits in canada and seberian cossacks, same. Humans adapt to what's around them and the same latitude means the same surroundings.


now in Nigeria if you go north you notice the climate change, and with the climate changes comes change in terrain and more radical changes in culture. These differences will thus cause misunderstanding, alientation, and conflict. There's a human habit of seeing to different things and wondering which is better for the two choices. When north and south meet, there are more differences and more opportunities to shed blood over the argument or fear of what's 'different'.


In the US, the South functions more like Africa than the North because the South is hotter. People are later in the south, everyone is more laid back, respect for elders and respect for others is more important, agriculture is king, people spend more of their day outside. In the north they deal with things the south and africa don't deal with, snow storms, a more rigid climate season rotation, different types of vegetation etc. Their culture is thus different.





2. Human Migration: Disease makes dictates human migration. humans thus spread more rapidly east and west than they do north and south. Why? again, latitude. Some bacteria live in some latitudes exclusively but can't live in others because the climate will kill them or the climate doesn't provide them with food. Thus east and west tend to be more inclined to trade and travel among each other while north and south avoid and fight each other. Northern Nigerians are dependent on cows that prior to modern technology would have died in southern nigeria due to the tsetse fly. Europeans couldn't occupy Nigeria in large number because they weren't immune to malaria to the extent that africans were. Where as the same disease an Igbo faces, a Cameroonian, and Edo man, a Yoruba and a Togolais will face them because latitude. Thus humans migrate east and west, and are more likely to be genetically and linguistically related to their east/west neighbors than their north and south neighbors. Just think of a trip to Ghana by road. Now think of how much more brutal a trip northwards in africa would be from Nigeria of equal distance. Surviving in Nigeria and surviving in Ghana require the same skills. Surviving in North nigeria and southern nigeria require a whole different set of skills.

Religion:
The locations of the origin of the 2 most common religions in the world really determine the condensation of the religions.

Both christianity and islam originate from the mideast. Christianity from the old Palestinian area before been taken over by the muslims before the 1st crusade and the fight between the Salah Adin Yussuf Ibn Ayyub (saladin) and King Richard 1, the lion heart(brother of John Lackland) of England for the possession of jerusalem.
The islamic religion originates from the arabian peninsula and vehicled largely by the ottoman empire.

The movement of islam was mostly through jihad, then trade with the arabs which was majorly on land and mildly on mediterranean sea and indian ocean. This made the islam movement downward the tropic of cancer through the african territory. And upward the tropic of cancer in the european and asian territories.

The christian religion was vehicled by the missionaries, exploration and slave trade which had the movement over the water bodies mostly atlantic, india and pacific to the west african coast, south african coast, american coast. And southern asian coast. This made the penetration of christianity upward.

Just saying this just for the OP to understand that island don't dominate the northern while the southern part is dominated by christianity. Because it depends on the location of the countries to the tropic of cancer which bisect the arabian peninsula and which middle east is located
