President Jonathan Awards N2.4 Billion “Anti Oil Pipeline Vandalism” Contract to OPC. Posted by Editor It appears President Goodluck Jonathan has finally given up hope on the ability of Nigeria’s security agencies to police oil pipeline installations across the country as he has just awarded a 2.4 Billion naira monthly contract to the Dr Frederick Fasehun faction of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC to “police and protect oil pipelines in South West Nigeria against vandalism”. President Jonathan had earlier last year awarded similar contracts running into billions of naira to repentant oil militants in the Niger Delta to protect oil pipelines in the South-South region. Reacting to the contract award, Head of Afenifere Renewal Group. Hon Wale Osun described the contract as “a gift by Jonathan to Fasehun and others so as to break the rank of the Yorubas in 2015″. Wale Osun condemned the resort to bribing militant groups rather than empowering security agencies established by law to man and police oil pipelines in the country. With this development, we wait to see if President Jonathan will award similar contract to MASSOB to protect oil pipeline in the South-East Region and whether the president will extend similar gesture to the Boko Haram sect, whicvh he is now considering amnesty for. |
