Yesterday we sat on a fallen tree trunk
watching the sunset
burn a steady yellow in the sky
fingers touching, twirling tidbits
of remembrance.
The laughter in your throat tickled
echoes from my stomach
until I lay twisting in wet grass
listening to the soft sound
of bristling breeze bearing
innocence from the children's
playground.
Today I lie face-up
on my hard bed and think
of the neem tree
on which we carved our names
only yesterday.
The silence exhumes memories
long buried in the bowels
of my stomach
of innocent
fingers touching, twirling tidbits
of remembrance.
